Frank Ocean, who in our opinion has long outgrown his Odd Future cohorts, is busy working on what has got to be one of the most anticipated albums of 2012. Like he did a few weeks ago, the crooner has shared a short new song on his Tumblr page, possibly called “Voodoo.” The song is not 100 seconds long, but that is all Ocean needs to melt you with his golden falsetto and meditations on marriage – a subject he memorably contemplated on his mixtape, Nostalgia, ULTRA. Listen to “Voodoo” below, and hope Ocean keeps us this much in the loop as he records his album.

It’s indicative of Frank Ocean’s rapidly rising star that sketchy-quality YouTube videos of a handful of new tracks he performed at a London show Friday night are the stuff of blog fervor. We’re waiting on better quality versions to make a final judgement, but “Disillusioned” and “Real Love” pretty effortlessly follow in the smooth R&B footsteps Ocean’s been gaining a lot of attention treading. He’s not a particularly interesting performer, but his catchy, serpentine beats and supple croon will certainly hold your attention.

Last night, Odd Future crooner Frank Ocean and his otherworldly falsetto made their solo live debut in a sold out space in the Big Easy. Consequence of Sound points us to a video of Ocean performing “Thinking of You”, a track not found on his breakthrough mixtape, nostalgia, ultra. Frank Ocean is easily Odd Future’s least confrontational member – his smooth R&B-influenced slow-jams don’t exactly invite immediate feelings of outraged intrigue like those of any fellow members of the Los Angeles collective (after all, the man’s written for Justin Bieber). The internet’s latest Frank Ocean offering is “Back” – a track that until recently has only been available in almost un-listenable quality – and it even further establishes him as an outstanding new talent in his field.
