Sykur – Curling (Database Remix)

March 14 2012
Stoney Roads

Holy 80′s rock anthem, Batman! database offers up a free download of their remix of Skykur‘s “Curling”. Starting off with what sounds like a straight-on disco beat, this track quickly kicks into gear with some serious electro influences. The vocal slams in with a truly epic vibe reminiscent of some Sneaky Sound System stuff. Oh, did I mention how atmospheric and moody the break is and how well it contrasts with the rest of the tune? I just did. Rock it.

Tech Preview: Traktor Kontrol F1 Set For Release

March 14 2012
Stoney Roads

The official word is out: Traktor Kontrol F1 and Traktor Pro 2.5 is set to hit stores worldwide on the 30th of May as finally announced by Native Instruments.

This release which I have previously discussed here will include a massive upgrade to Traktor Pro’s live remixing capabilities in the form of what is called a remix deck. Basically, each deck now has it’s own associated sample deck that can theoritically host 16 samples, but only four can be active at a time. The video demo that features DJ Shiftee on deck further shows the things a skilled artist can perform in this new Traktor setup.

I’m expecting a tight workflow integration between Traktor Pro 2.5 and Traktor Kontrol F1 as they have done ever so successfully with their previous Traktor Kontrol series. With a retail price of USD279, this is surely not a cheap product but the good news is that you don’t have to get Traktor Pro software separately if you have already buy the hardware, as the software comes included.

More information can be found on the NI product page. Also check out an exclusive DJ TechTools interview with DJ Shiftee here.

Dirty South & Thomas Gold feat. Kate Elsworth – Eyes Wide Open (Lenno Remix)

March 14 2012
Stoney Roads

Bouncy progressive dude Lenno has remixed electro house namesakes Dirty South and Thomas Gold‘s track Eyes Wide Open. I’m not much for electro house these days, but Lenno really kicks up the energy on this remix and makes it progressive enough that I’m definitely going to pick this one up. I suggest you do the same! The full release is out now on Beatport.

Fool’s Gold Radio – March 2012 Mix

March 14 2012
Stoney Roads

The monthly Fool’s Gold Radio mixtape for March just dropped and it’s chock full of the thumpin’-est beats we’ve heard since…well, at least since A-Trak’s last release in February! But this mix is extra special: it not only commemorates A-Trak’s birthday month, but it’s also a bitchin’ celebratory preview of what is to come from the Fool’s Gold label and many other talented DJs and producers featured, who will all come together in Miami for Winter Music Conference/Ultra Music Festival at the end of the month.

After his signature intro track, A-Trak fades right into the funky fresh release “Yo Vogue” from French Fries, remixed by Dirtybird big-daddy, Claude VonStroke. From there he takes us on a journey into a new sound from Destructo with “LA Funky”, to be released on his much anticipated debut EP, “Technology”, in April from the BNR Trax label. You may know Destructo from his HARD parties, and you may also have noticed the slick sounds of this particular track in the official promo video for the HOLY SHIP! cruise that Destructo helped set sail on it’s maiden voyage back in January. If you haven’t seen the video yet, check it here.

This is yet another electric and eclectic exemplifier of A-Trak’s mixing mastermind. The endlessly diverse track selection features a stack of prime cuts, including the massive tune from Kanye and Jay-Z that goes buck wild mid-way through when A-Trak adds his special spin. Take a listen, it’s just what ‘cha need – this mix is definitely “Where My Money At.”

New-guard techno producer Brodinski has remixed Australia’s Beni and one of the highlight tracks from his recent album - “Last Night”.

SebastiAn feat. Mayer Hawthorne – Love In Motion (Rustie Remix)

March 14 2012
Stoney Roads

Rustie has definitely nailed it with his remix of Sebastian’s roller of a track “Love In Motion” that features sweet crooner Mayer Hawthorne.

Keeping it strictly rhythm, the young Scot has toughened out the almost lush original by shifting the focus onto the crazy-finger early 90′s piano chords and handclaps!

The remix will drop in the form of a special SebastiAn 4 x 12″ Record Store Day Boxset including two unreleased originals;

#1 Embody (ED046)
A Embody (Album Version)
B Embody (DJ Premier 95 Break Remix)

#2 CTFO (ED051)
A1 CTFO (Original)
A2 CTFO (Nero Remix)
B1 CTFO (DMX Krew Remix)
B2 Embody (Kavinsky Remix)

#3 Love in Motion (ED053)
A1 Love in Motion (Album Version)
A2 Love in Motion (Rustie Remix)
B1 Love in Motion (Skrillex’s Funkt-Out Remix)

Avicii’s “Levels”, one of the most recognisable tracks on the dance circuit since we all put our hands up for Detroit has been bootlegged by beat-baron Harvard Bass.

Miike Snow’s new album, Happy To You arrives on March 27th. What we presume will be the last sneak peak before the album’s release –– the official video for new single “The Wave” –– has arrived. It’s very strange and compelling, like an episode of Twin Peaks set in Roswell.

REC’D: Lotus Plaza – “Strangers”

March 14 2012
PMA | Pretty Much Amazing

As you might know, Deerhunter’s ace guitarist, producer and songwriter Lockett Pundt makes shoegaze-y, sleep-smeared dream-pop as Lotus Plaza. Pundt will follow-up his thoroughly solid first LP, The Floodlight Collection with Strange Action at a Distance (which is the perfect description of his music). “Strangers” is our first taste from the LP, and it’s staggering.

Pundt has grown a lot as an artist since he released The Floodlight Collection, that much is obvious. A clear turning point was a song he wrote for his band’s 2010 album, Halcyon Digest; the mesmerizing and perfect “Desire Lines.” Though it was clearly modeled after it, “Strangers” is no “Desire Lines,” but it comfortably sits in the upper echelon of Pundt’s rich discography.

Voxels – Exclusive Discobelle Mixtape

March 14 2012
Discobelle.net

Oporto-based duo Voxels dropped some real heat in our mailbox today, in the form of a hour long mix knocked out from their affectionately named Magical Audio Unicorn bunker studio. Combining twerky, jittery squelching electro house circa Renaissance Man’s “Spraycan” mixed with sex-addiction prone vocals, it’s a recipe that ensures furious dancefloor activity. Thick bass growls, rave-flecked laser-like synths and metronomic techno at its finest.

This mix celebrates the release of ‘Nasty’, their proper debut on Lisbon’s most kuduro-obsessed label Enchufada. Two fantastic tracks that you’ll be incorporating into every set for months- absolutely zero filler. Buy it here!

New: Jack White – “Sixteen Saltines”

If Jack White’s first teaser track from his upcoming solo record Blunderbuss, “Love Interruption,” was a slice out of the radio-ready pop-soul he was doing with the Raconteurs, his second single “Sixteen Saltines” would likely fit in neatly among the White Stripes’ canon.

Robbie Rivera feat. Jes – Turn It Around (Robbie Rivera’s Juicy Beach Mix)

March 14 2012
Stoney Roads

With a title that plays out more like a sentence, is this the European summers next anthem made and remixed by Robbie Rivera?

Out on Block Hole Recordings, ‘Turn it around’ is a one track exclusive that combines the female vocals of Jes and presents a hybrid euro house/ bangor combination.

I know the vocals are a tad on the typical side but for some strange reason I find this song refreshing probably because it is not lead by the sometimes invasive and highly popular Europeans choice of synths.

Review: White Rabbits – Milk Famous

March 14 2012
PMA | Pretty Much Amazing

B- | 03.06.12 | TBD | MP3 | CD

As a David Guetta-powered tidal wave of Euro dance crashes and breaks over the world’s nations, it’s hard not to wonder – where has all the indie music gone? Swept into the nooks of surburban garages? Hidden within the crannies of Williamsburg? Have fey indie rockers been squashed by the unrelenting auto-tuned demands to move it to the dance floor and put your hands up in the air?

But, perhaps like limescale, there’s indie music that clings still, immovable to the bright-bleach gushing of Top 40 pop. It may not be neon, nor brash but it’s enduring – to the charts and to hearts.

Are Brooklyn’s White Rabbits ready to qualify as music’s answer to bathroom mould? Critics swooned over their debut, Fort Nightly, and follow-up It’s Frightening produced their most-plays on Spotify. So how does their third effort Milk Famous compare?

NEW VIDEO: The Shoes – Time To Dance

March 14 2012
Pop Labyrinth

The Shoes’ “Crack My Bones” was one of the more underrated releases of 2011 that I didn’t get a chance to write about. For a band previously rooted in remix service for the blogs, the album was a pleasant surprise of catchy indie synth-pop of a contemplative, melancholy nature, with vocal contributions from all the hip British artists like CocknBullKid, Esser, Primary 1. Even though they are big in their home country France, it looks like they’re finally getting their due here, thanks to their controversial “Time To Dance” video.
Ultra-violent, intense and disturbing, the 8-minute video starred Jake Gyllenhaal as an unhinged serial killer, always on to the next victim. To be honest, the song’s not my most favorite on the album, as it feels like a poor man’s Justice’s “D.A.N.C.E.”, down to the spelling bee gimmick, but it will be the one to get people talking, especially after the release of its compelling video. Unfortunately, I think it’s one of those cases where the accompanying visuals are so strong they overpower the song, and the song’s kinda ruined for me now that it will forever be associated with Jake’s creepy-ass serial killer brows. Anyhow, check out the video below if you haven’t (not for the faint of heart obviously), then stream the new extended edit, and the SebastiAn remix which only pushed the Justice comparisons further.

Sander Van Doorn is back with an absolute Euro romper stomper titled Chasin’.

Out on his own imprint Doorn Records this track serves as 1 song exclusive. Expect the build of a progressive house flow mixed with proddy and unique noises serving up a less cheese riddled club bangor. There is something about the tone of this song that screams for a play by a main stage in the twilight hours of a festival set!

The Penelopes are originally a French pop duo who recently felt a change of scenery recently basing themselves in London. The pair are almost ready to release the remix package of their hit ‘Sally In The Galaxy‘ in which Edwin Van Cleef intends to show his legendary disco presence! As usual Cleef nails it infusing the catchy chorus of ‘Sally’ whilst maintaining his renowned cosmic nu-disco vibe. This one is sure to be on repeat, if not already!

SBTRKT – Hold On (Benson Club Version)

March 14 2012
Stoney Roads

SBTRKT, although prolific lacks a swag of remixes that usually follow popular artists around (notable mentioned to Sisi Bakbak/ThomYork). One we are digging though is fom Melbourne lad Benson with his twisted tropical club-rub of “Hold On”.

He’s completely utilised the percussive elements while beefing things up with a cool balance of a warm melody and a steady drum pattern!

Listen, love, download
