The Weeknd – “Montreal”

High 5 Collective have released another video inspired by the evocative music of The Weeknd. Last year they put House of Balloons’ “The Morning” to film, and now they’ve just released a video inspired by Echoes of Silence‘s gorgeous standout, “Montreal.” As Disco Naïveté points out, the clip zeroes in on the song’s French refrain: “laisse tomber les filles,” or “leave the girls alone,” and depicts a father abusing his teenage daughter.

New: Kid Cudi’s WZRD – “Teleport 2 Me, Jamie”

PMA | Pretty Much Amazing

Kid Cudi may have pushed back his collaborative album with Dot Da Genius, WZRD, from January 31 to February 28, but he did release a new single from the album, the Drive soundtrack-sampling “Teleport 2 Me, Jamie.” The atmospheric jam is almost entirely void of the riffage Cudi and Genius threw on other WZRD track “Brake”. It would actually fit effortlessly within Kid Cudi’s hazy oeuvre – somewhere between “Pursuit of Happiness” and “Mr. Rager.” Whether or not this is a bad thing depends entirely on you; we’re digging it.

WZRD Teleport 2 Me, Jamie

I was skeptical upon hearing that Kid Cudi was going to release an alternative rock album even though all his music has always been in his own category. Teleport 2 Me, Jamie is the first from his band WZRD which also consists of producer Dot da Genius. It’ll take some digesting but I’m definitely interested in this direction he’s decided to take. WZRD will be out February 28.

New: Air – “Parade”

You know the details of Air’s upcoming Le Voyage Dans La Lune – the French electro duo were asked to score a restored version of George Melies’ original sci-fi film of the same title, and their project quickly evolved into a full album that includes vocal contributions from Beach House’s Victoria Legrand and others. We’ve caught some of the band’s excellent cuts from the score, including “Parade,” which NPR premiered a snippet of late last year alongside restored footage from the film. Now you can hear the complete psychedelic instrumental jam with some attendant topical visuals. Le Voyage Dans La Lune is out on February 7.

GORILLA VS. BEAR

New (old) / previously unreleased track from Chaz Bundick, taken from his forthcoming June 2009 (coincidentally, the same month we first heard the man’s work) archival 7” vinyl box set, which chronicles some of the early, pre-Causers of This recordings that we were so fond of back in the day:
