ELIOT LIPP

May 17 2012
Manalogue

PRETTY LIGHTS MUSIC is set to release the new ELIOT LIPP album, Shark Wolf Rabbit Snake, on May 22, 2012. This release has Lipp breaking new ground with his ever-evolving production style. He has developed a unique sound that is completely its own yet sticks with the PLM axiom of genre bending originality. The album incorporates everything that has recently been in Lipp’s sonic world, including hip-hop, drum & bass, funk, techno, jazz, and more, while still remaining a cohesive whole. The album is heavy on analogue synthesis and very tasteful sample collaging. These two elements make it sound as though it is simultaneously ahead of its time, and from the past.

The first single from Lipp sounds like it could have come from the vaults of Derek Vincent Smith – I can’t think of another artist who comes as close to the full nuance of Pretty Lights (the producer and/or the label). While it’s not entirely peak-hour maximalism, the full range of sonics in this track are drenched in perfection.

TIGER & WOODS (LIVE) at CIRQUE

May 17 2012
Winnie Cooper

Tiger and Woods

Tiger & Woods, consisting of Larry Tiger and David Woods, are a secretive musical duo that often hides behind a fierce looking leopard logo.  They’ve recently garnered much attention for their funk infused disco, which has probably gotten them more ass than the real Tiger Woods circa 2010.

Their latest release “Through the Green” got them an 8.2 on Pitchfork media, with the track “Gin Nation” even making it on the sites top 100 tracks of 2011 list, coming in at a solid 83.   For the past few months, Tiger & Woods have been touring the world, selling out clubs in New York, London, and Miami.

While the lack of information regarding their personal histories is frustrating, especially if you fantasies involving a hotel room and bubble baths, the epicness of this dream team cannot be denied.  The only scary part is that these dudes are just getting started.

Tiger and Woods

So if you want to experience the magic that is Tiger & Woods, come by FIVESIXTY (560 Seymour Street) on May 25.  Tickets are only $15.00 in advance and are available online and at the following locations: Red Cat, Puff, Zulu, Highlife and Beatstreet.

Also taking the stage is Winnie Cooper co-founder @Tristanorchard, as well as Luke Mckeehan, Joel Armstrong, DJ Woodhead, SKLA and Right Hand Barber.  Doors at 10 pm.  More information on the event page.

Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs – American Dream Part II

May 17 2012
Gotta Dance Dirty

When you see that a new Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs YouTube video has been posted, it’s always a good sign… This amazing cut was made in collaboration with ADAM, though it is unclear as to what he does or who he is exactly. The tune in the video, “American Dream Part II,” was named “Hottest tune in the world right now” by BBC Radio 1′s Zane Lowe last week and there is no arguing against that. Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs’ debut album, Trouble, will be dropping on June 11th and it can’t come soon enough.

Skrillex Added To Forbes Top 100

May 17 2012
Stoney Roads

150 shows later and a bustling bank = Skrillex has entered the Forbes top 100 richest celebrities.

Yes that’s right, if you needed any more evidence of the ‘EDM’ explosion as of May 2012 Skrillex’s worth has now been estimated to exceed $15 million making him one spot richer than US 30 rock comedian Tina Fey.

The spot coincides with a busy year for the producer with Grammy wins, news of dating songstress Ellie Goulding, being named one of the greatest guitarists of all time and leading the rise of commercial dubstep globally!

Pretty impressive for a 24 year old transvestite.

ON THE DL: WILL BAILEY – SPIDER // VALENTINO KHAN – BOB DUATO

May 17 2012
Gotta Dance Dirty

ATTENTION GDD!
This is my new column called ON THE DL – each week I will feature two different tracks that are FREE downloads for fans and bloggers alike. Amidst the label copyrights and music sale politics, I want to shed light on the producers making quality tunes and are kind enough to serve them up as giveaways. Back to the way that many artists and blogs began….

DOWNLOAD THE TRACKS after the jump!

After the massive success of their collab moombah anthem “Ruckus,” Will Bailey and Valentino Khan have been hard at work in the studio chopping out  heavy productions on all fronts. I have for you their two latest releases both FREE downloads for their fans!

Will Bailey – Spider DOWNLOAD
Taking the similar direction as Ruckus, ‘Spider’ is an even nastier moombahcore ride driven by lazer synths and Bailey’s signature bouncey basslines. This tune is tough.

Valentino Khan – Bob Duato DOWNLOAD
Named after the infamous Kenny Powers quote, ‘Bob Duato’ is a murderous dubstep tune with a true shark bite. Valentino rattles a slimier bassline that the dub crowd will be excited about.

Broadwalk Records: Julio Bashmore – Au Seve

May 17 2012
Gotta Dance Dirty

After producing Jessie Ware‘s latest single, “110%,” the GDD™ favorite, Julio Bashmore, is back at it yet again and stronger than ever. In the midst of all of the musical happenings in his life, he has chosen to start his own label, Broadwalk Records. His first release on the imprint, “Au Seve,” is certainly worthy of the crucial position with a fresh flute-like synth combined with all of the Bashmore bass you know and love. He commented on his SoundCloud regarding the news and said, “Today heralds a new era in the Julio Bashmore chronicles, with a sound that shall echo through the ages…” We can’t wait for the future releases to come! Enjoy the new tune after the jump and look out for it’s release on July 2nd. √+

Deadmau5 rips into Jersey Shore star on Twitter

May 17 2012
Stoney Roads

In what could be the best thing to happen since sliced bread, Deadmau5 has openly annihalated Jersey Shore douche DJ Pauly D over his new music video.

Deadmau5 as truthful as ever quoted “well since you asked, I didn’t really enjoy it. It looked like it cost about $150 to make, and nothing really creative about it”

Watch below to see what the mau5trap head honcho was talking about.

Julio Bashmore Starts New Label + Debut Stream

May 17 2012
Stoney Roads

Broadwalk Records

Julio Bashmore has spun off his own imprint – Broadwalk Records, with the debut release dropping from none other then… himself!

Why does an in-demand producer and remixer need his own imprint? The label blurb summarises it perfectly;

“Fast cars, money, but no record label to truly call my own? This ends today…

Hi, I’m Julio Bashmore.
Somehow I have found time between jet-setting around the globe, becoming a voice for the people via my Radio One show and generally living the high life to bring you a brand new label, Broadwalk Records.

Today heralds a new era in the Julio Bashmore chronicles, with a sound that shall echo through the ages…”

For many “Battle For Middle Earth” was the house anthem you couldn’t nor wouldn’t want to escape during 2011.

Stream the A-side “Au Seve” from the debut release below, release date set for July 2nd.

Baauer – Harlem Shake

May 17 2012
Discobelle.net

Stunning track from NYC producer Baauer, 2012 is far from over but “Harlem Shake” could be the club tune of the year.

“The love child of Brooklyn and the Internet, Baauer was born out of noise. A sound that began steeped in the 4/4 dance tradition, slowly took on hip hop tendencies until the two became one. Influenced heavily by southern hip-hop and UK bass sounds, Baauer has found himself smack dab in the middle of the electronic renaissance. He is the delectable fusion of future-crunk and leather shaken aggressively in a bottle for years and has only just opened the top to pour the mixture out.”

“Finally! Phil Houseley offers us another remix of a classic track, this time: Under Pressure. A song created by Rock gods David Bowie and Queen in 1981. It was Queen’s bass player Roger Deacon that defined the foundation of this song with that timeless bass line, that would later be reprised by Vanilla Ice’s 1990 classic hit – Ice Ice Baby.”

MS MR: "Hurricane"

May 17 2012
Best New Tracks - Pitchfork

Beating Lana Del Rey's record for "1990s influenced Tumblr photos per minute" with the video for their debut single "Hurricane", out July 2 via Iamsound/Chess Club, the shadowy New York City duo MS MR take a little of the "Video Games" singer's drama, and pair it with Poliça's gritty stride, along with a stroke of All Saints poutiness. "Welcome to the inner workings of my mind," MS MR's female half offers with a touch of hostility. Lyrically, "Hurricane" feels beset by a sense of hopelessness, but sounds as though it should soundtrack a heroine turning triumphantly on a heel as the credits roll.

Download "Hurricane" in exchange for an email at MS MR's site, or listen above.

Robyn – None of Dem ft. Royksopp (Craig Williams & PHNM Remix)

Our buddy Craig Williams took some influence from the 808s and Booty Bass that he heard at the Dirtybird BBQ in Miami this year and put together a grooving remix of Robyn‘s ‘None of Dem ft. Royksopp’ with his mate PHNM. It’s definitely a track to get the dancefloor moving and a good remix to have in the bag for those late night Robyn requests. Download it for free after the jump.

Check Out: Summer Camp – “Life”

May 17 2012
Pretty Much Amazing

Summertime means a different kind of this year – we’re talking the band, who are poised to make it real big real soon, what with a new EP, Always, dropping in the next few months and a slew of festival dates coming up. The duo’s first Always single “Life” is the summer jam you’ve been waiting for – that huge, beltable chorus is one thing, but it’s impossible to ignore those massive dancehall beats, woozy, wobbly synths, and sublime opening piano chords. Consider this band one to watch, consider this song your new favorite. Always drops July 10.

Summer Camp – “Life”

If you missed out on Summer Camp’s debut album, Welcome To Condale, late last year, read our review and stream it here. We still think that album was released way too late in the year. We are appreciating it a lot more now that the days are longer and warmer.

MP3: Foxes – “Let Go For Tonight” (demo)

May 17 2012
Pretty Much Amazing

Louisa Rose Allen makes music that delicately walks a line between the diva posturings you hear on Top 40 radio and the layered orchestrality of indie chamber pop, which is probably why we like her project so much. Allen’s dropping her first real release under that misleadingly plural monicker, an EP called Warrior, this summer, and she’s just shared a demo version of one of its tracks, “Let Go For Tonight,” which was co-written with frequent Florence and the Machine collaborator Kid Harpoon. It’s probably her most anthemic track yet, and it’s so complete-sounding and resplendent it’s hard to believe it’s a demo. Allen’s vocals are fantastic, the production impeccable. Warrior drops July 1.

Album Stream: Simian Mobile Disco – Unpatterns

May 17 2012
Pretty Much Amazing

have teased Unpatterns long enough, but the record’s finally dropped, and even if you’re not feeling ordering vinyl, you can check it out: the band have made the record available to stream. We’ve already heard a third of the album’s nine epic tracks (“Seraphim,” “Put Your Hands Together,” and “Cerulean”) but there’s still six previously-unheard jams for you to sample: you’ll be pleased to know they follow in the same creepy-sexy, chilly, clubby path as the singles. We’re particularly feeling intro track “I Waited For You,” with its heavily edited vocal samples and dizzying bass wobble, but check out the record’s latter half for excellent deep cuts like “Your Love Ain’t Fair,” too.

Thanking You

May 17 2012
Bizzies

While the previous Doyo tracks that we’ve posted (“Blast” and “Sidekick“) had a prominently ”aggressive” feel, “Thanking You” swiftly goes in the opposite direction. It’s a cool, laid back cruiser that feels like it could fit both in a supporting DJs early night set or even during the peak hours of a daytime rooftop pool party. Either way, the chopped siren will most certainly get some head nods from your crowd.

MP3: Fang Island – “Asunder”

May 17 2012
Pretty Much Amazing

Rhode Island’s finest math-pop trio are back in the game this summer with their second record Major, and here’s hook-laden, chugging lead single “Asunder” for your headbanging pleasure. Good luck not getting whiplash, because “Asunder” is a track that just doesn’t let up – massive, motorik drums relentlessly pound as tightly interwoven pop-punk guitars fight for dominance, frontman Jason Bartell wails anthemic, catchy lyrics, the whole thing ends in a storm of clattering handclaps. All in all, “Asunder” puts Fang Island in the front lines of a slew of great bands (see: Titus Andronicus, Turbo Fruits, etc.) fighting to reclaim the genre “pop-punk” from its associations with mall rock and winning. Major drops July 24.

Azealia Banks ‘Fantastic’ Mixtape out July 4th

May 17 2012
Pretty Much Amazing

It looks like debut mixtape Fantastic just got about 100% more patriotic; the young, potty-moufed MC took to Twitter this morning and announced that the highly anticipated ‘tape will drop July 4th. This is, of course, after the May 29th release of Banks’ debut EP, 1991. Last we heard, she was still expecting to release her full-length album in September. That’s a lot of new music for someone who hadn’t even uploaded their breakthrough viral on YouTube a year ago.
