Neon Hitch – Black and Blues

August 16 2009

Well over a year ago, we introduced you to the urban-gypsy flair of Neon Hitch. In the past 12 months, the distinctly styled and sounding lady has been busy recording and readying her debut album, expected out in late 2009/early 2010.

Earlier this year, she guested with Miike Snow, and now, with the likes of wonderkid producer, Benny Blanco, (he of production/remix fame for Spank Rock, Britney Spears, Kylie Minogue, etc…), Hitch is set to tackle audiences with a unique blend of pop, rock, reggae and hip-hop.

Sound like an interesting combination? You better believe it!

Give a listen to Black and Blues, a stripped down track with intermittent clicks, hits and a “1-2″ Jamaican beat influenced by her worldy lifestyle. Then, jump over to her ‘Space to stream more goodies.*

*Did I just unknowingly make 2 Ciara references in that last paragraph? Funny, cause Blanco co-produced Tell Me What Your Name Is off her latest album!

Doing It It It

Transparent Blog

Check out “Who Does?”, the sticky and swarming two-minute heatseeker of a first flight from Manila’s Bee Eyes ; an insectoid, buzzing rarity of a song that could perhaps be compared to some of our favourite racket-made boys and girls found shilly-shallying in the shallows of many a grown weary beach metaphor in pursuit of the perfect cutaway summer asleep-all-day anthem this year if the water into which they plunged was a bubbling black abyss, an undead sea of locusts – tempestuous, fearfully phosphorescent and singing with the half submerged, crazed choral harmonies of a malevolent and magnetic mermaid covenant.

MANALOGUE MIX

August 15 2009
manalogue

Uh, I finally recorded a mix. It’s been a year since I’ve done one successfully. I tried in December and January with while holding my son but they didn’t go so well.

Funny though, I really wanted to make a mix of summer indie tunes but nothing came together the way I wanted it to. In the end, I ended up recording a wobbly electro something. It’s not perfect and but it’s still pretty fun.

The Nextdoor Neighbors

nextdoor neighbors

I’ve been obsessing over Olympia/Seattle-based outfit, The Nextdoor Neighbors, so hard since discovering them a few weeks ago. Ridiculously endearing, this offbeat electro folk/pop duo released their debut album, Magic Vs the Machine, on Bicycle Records late last year, and it’s quite an impish little affair. With Kathy Cotes on keys and Jessie Hill on vocals, they work the kind of innocence that you’d normally see smothered in irony, but here it’s nothing but refreshingly honest. And oh man, that voice. She’s probably sick of hearing it, but Hill sounds exactly like a young Khaela Maricich. There’s this captivating ease about her that at times sees everything in the periphery just melt away from those transcendent lilting vocals of hers before they settle back in and play off Cotes’ pretty melodies.

You can pick up The Nextdoor Neighbors’ album from Bicycle Records’ site, and check out more of their tracks at their Myspace page.

GOING YIN FOR THE KILL

August 15 2009
Stoney Roads - Dance Music and News

img_5115

Hailing from Texas, his name is more exotic than a Russian transvestite vampire. His beats are dirtier than what a Russian transvestite vampire’s job description would entail.

Wolfgang Gartner - Yin for the kill (Dave Spoon Bootleg)

Mixed with the soothing lyrics of La Roux, it makes for a (gang) banger. Dave Spoon really dug his spoon into this one (if you know what i mean). The break down will probably make munters chew their top lip off faster than a lion hunting its prey in the South African wild.

Track Preview - WolfGang Gartner - Flashback feat. MC Flipside

This version of Flashbacks official release date is rumoured to be in October
