mp3 premiere: Widowspeak – “Harsh Realm”

February 27 2011
GORILLA VS. BEAR

Another hit from Captured Tracks, in the form of the new 7″ single from Brooklyn’s Widowspeak: The band’s already garnered quite a few Mazzy Star comparisons, and this new 7″ version of “Harsh Realm” — the original appeared on the band’s debut tape that dropped late last year — is a woozy little ’60s-meets-’90s gem that definitely recalls the haunting, lovesick sweetness of “Fade Into You.” Doesn’t hurt that singer Molly Hamilton’s dreamy voice is a dead ringer for Hope Sandoval’s:

Widowspeak’s Harsh Realm / Burnout 7″ is out March 8. First 400 on white vinyl, cop it from Captured Tracks.

Stoney Roads - Dance and Indie Music and News

After first gaining notice for his immaculate remix of Kavinsky’s ‘Nightcall’, Robotaki has continued to gain momentum with his unique, percussion heavy, electro style. Robotaki brings the funk and the girth, making music which can be ground out in da club or enjoyed in the company of friends.
His latest offering is his remix of Chilly Gonzales you can dance [watch the film clip here]. If you’re not feeling this I’d have your pulse checked.

If you live in britain you can buy it on itunes. You can also purchase it on beatport here.

PREEMTIV:

Godfather of techno Juan Atkins continues his lifelong dedication to the genre he founded by harnessing its alien sounds and pushing his brand of futurism on the dancefloor. These three new, heavily layered tracks are abstract works of art that you can dance to. In turn, the remixers have pushed Atkins’ tracks to more experimental, more organic and more poppier places. It’s a perfect set of sounds for whatever part of the galaxy you’re listening in.

The Baker Man and The Noodle man

You Can Call Me Pelski
Lykke Li's impossibly uplifting pop number has been given a magnificent remix. It's a brash, uninhibited rework, unafraid to throw in big cartoonish piano keys, ecstatic hand claps and a chunky-as-anything analogue synth. It's shamelessly hands-in-the-air fodder, and all the better for it:

Lykke Li - I Follow Rivers (The Magician Remix) [pelski highly recommends]

Simon Baker - one of my favorite artists - is finally releasing his long awaited debut album, 'Traces'. The Leeds techno/house stalwart has been around long enough... doing bits and bobs here and there, running his own imprint Infant and putting out some damn fine original productions and, notably, remixes over the last ten years or so. Two years ago RCRDLBL handed out this 192kbps of his remix of singer-songwriter Cortney Tidwell, and, in anticipation of 'Traces', here it is:

Cortney Tidwell - Watusii (Simon Baker Remix){192kbps}

Next up we have two disco edits: one new, one old. A classic from Todd Terje - the King of all things 'edit' - funks things out with this stylish re-rub, all strutting hollow percussion and cosmic phasing effects:

Disco/Very - Get It On (Todd Terje Tangoterje Re-Edit)

I very much doubt that anyone could ever come up with a better artist name than... The Noodleman. The mighty Noodleman himself has put together a rolling piece of sleek, chiming disco that's tasty indeed:

Loleatta Holloway - Hit and Run (The Noodleman Dub)

Contact High, I’m Done Dreaming

Broken Silence

I remember when I first heard/saw Architecture In Helsinki (They’re from Australia, not Finland). I was at a Death Cab concert I believe and Architecture was opening for them. They had just released their first album but I had never heard of them. But when they took the stage, I was a fan. Loved the show, the music and bought their CD at the concert. That’s a great album. Ever since then they’ve gained a lot of popularity and have released two albums since, their third coming out in April. It’s called Moment Bends and the first single is a bouncy jaunt, by the name of ‘Contact High’. It’s a real funked up, synthy song, with playful vocals, that are so youthful, earnest and endearing. The song is extremely sunny, bubbly and infectious.  It almost brings the warm weather with it. You’re guaranteed to have it on repeat.

LCD Soundsystem x Muppets Dance Yrself Clean Video music videos

I admit that when I first listened to LCD Soundsystem‘s supposed final album, This Is Happening, I was split down the middle. Split between tracks that I felt were James Murphy & Co.’s best work to-date and tracks that felt like 8-minute filler. Needless to say that several months and nearly two dozen or so listens later, the sheer potency of tracks worthy of instant classic-dom (“All I Want,” “I Can Change,” “Dance Yrself Clean”) had won me over for good. A friend once told me that when he listens to LCD Soundsystem, he is convinced that it is the best music ever. That is exactly how I feel every time I listen to “Dance Yrself Clean” – and now we can all do so, with Muppets. This is like “Fuck You” all over again, but better. #nopaltrow

Tyler, The Creator x Justin Bieber mp3

The most exciting thing about LA these days is Tyler, the Creator‘s sickeningly entertaining OFWGKTA. The last couple weeks have really gotten the collective a lot of press; especially for ringleader Tyler, who has been getting praised by everyone from Jimmy Fallon to Kanye West. Now that Tyler and his crew are making the rounds, it seems Tyler finally has finally met his boyhood idol, Justin Bieber. Although I’m 100% sure the Biebz’s Mom won’t let little JB collaborate with Tyler, you can peek at the pair’s (post-)ironic meeting above; and while we’re at it, listen to Tyler’s “Yonkers” chopped and screwed by Mike G below:
