Parasian duo Housquare are at it again with the thundering ‘Old Gem’ EP on Herves Cheap Thrils label.
We called the pair ‘the prominent lights in the surging house revival…’ back when they delivered an exclusive mixtape and for good reason!
The self-titled a-side moves between an original pulsing jack and melodic rhythms fit for a fat-pants breakdown while the b-sides “Onyx” feat Modek and “Saphir” are something else all together – blindingly cool handclaps meet skying vocals and acid-tech.
Pioneer are spruiking a product labelled Mixtrax. This hardware/software takes the tools of Pioneer’s professional DJ line and sends them out across a new lineup of portable and automotive products via music management software with a cloud approach.
Mixtrax with an internet connection will analyses your music collection for various attributes, including tempo and beats per minute (BPM). The internet connection will evaluate your music’s metadata and compare to a database on Pioneer’s cloud, speeding the analysis. The music is then categorized in its given genre, being “Dance,” “Chill” “house” etc and you’re on your way to creating instant mixes.
Mixtrax can automatically deliver a non-stop mix of tracks based on the information that it has collected. Worth the dollars?
Justin Faust produces a stomper remix for Picture Book‘s ‘Sunshine‘!
Picture Book released their first commercial EP ‘At Last’ early 2012. The four track EP was co-written and recorded with Grammy nominated vocalist Greta Svabo Bech, who featured on Deadmau5′s ‘Raise Your Weapon’. Now the stellar EP receives Faust‘s ‘gangsta swing’ treatment giving ‘Sunshine‘ that extra little punch.
Also be sure to check out the official video for the original version of ‘Sunshine‘, very cool.
The latest bootleg from AARON SIGMON reminds me of earlier Stanton Warriors. I think the 808 has a lot to do with it. The tune is built on the original by CHUCKIE with chunky breaks added for good measure. Some tight kicks and snares and a bassline that rolls a bit like lightning on wheels (does that make any sense?) round it out. It’s a bit crunchy with some electro flare (or do I mean flair – they both work in this case). You’ll get the point when you click below for the free download.
Mouse on Mars have a gift for making their electronic sounds come across like tangible, physical objects that are moving, bouncing, bending and colliding on the track. It’s like pop music rendered in 3D, with all the implied planes blown out to extremes, and the dynamics pushed to the point of seeming disorienting and surreal. They are particularly playful when they integrate vocals on tracks like “They Know Your Name.” They force you to strain to hear words made unintelligible by a seeming Doppler effect, which makes the words that do come out clearly, like the title phrase, take on an ambiguous quality. As the song bops around, the words ping-pong between meanings, going from innocuous fact to paranoid dread and back again.
We all know the definition of a palindrome, forward or backwards, these things just go both ways. Maybe it’s the Swedish in him, but apparently Avicii’s production works the same way. Discovered and perfected by George Monev, the continuously played ‘Levels’ is a club anthem even when in rewind. As sad as we are to having to bring out the played out track that led to a Bud Light ad, you have to hear this one. You make the decision, check it out.

PAT LOK is one of our favourite doods. He (and fellow Manaloguian CYCLIST) won the Rapture remix contest a few weeks back. We posted that tune before the winners were announced but we’ll post it again in case you missed it.
Ahem, back to the original intent of this post however. Pat’s most recent work sees him remixing THE SUPREME ACTION LEAGUE and the outcome spins you around more than the Griswolds in a traffic circle. It’s a bit house, a bit disco, and a bit garage. In short then, this tune is all good.
I’m beginning to wonder about the incestuousness of music these days. You see, last week we also got another track from The Supreme Action League. I’ve been a bit busy with some other things (like taking care of a wife and newborn, for example). I didn’t get around to posting so here it is now. In my first post about these doods, I described them as if Chromeo made ghetto funk. The latest from them keeps that in check. It’s a free download too.
Here’s an ultra-deadly remix from REFRACTURE. The intro’s a bit long, which makes the wumph all that more unexpected, if it weren’t from UK native. Alright then, let’s ‘ave it!
A couple weeks back we were sent this humourous wobble monster too. I’m sure you’ll recognize the sample. (Apologies for the late post – some of you may have heard my wife had our second baby and well, he’s setting the priorities.)
School of Seven Bells are named for a mythical South American pickpocketing academy, whereby trainee thieves can only pass if they’ve managed to offload items from a person without disturbing the seven bells attached to varying pockets. On this note, you might expect deep South American influences, or at the very least, the odd tinkle of a handbell sprinkled across the record. But, really, School for Seven Bells make music that’s just as fantastic and thought provoking as their name suggests. It’s thrilling, dreamy electropop.
When did music decide that using vowels was too mainstream? Was it when CDs started disappearing from our shelves that it was decided that a, e, i o and u should follow? Or that if you whack a beat on it you should shed some letters (ahem, SBTRKT, MSTRKRFT)? ‘Goth dance’ Toronto duo TRUST might have lost ‘u’ to gain their album title TRST, but they haven’t lost us – quite yet.
The Soul Snatchers are a retro funk/soul band from the Netherlands, who are built around rhythm section and producers Ton v/d Kolk (Bass) and Phil Martin (Drums). The two are also responsible for other funky outfits like AIFF (Afro Influenced Funk Federation) and Laura Vane and the Vipertones. Ton and Phil are dedicated to bringing back the vintage soul sound known from the sixties and seventies. The Soul Snatchers have an emphasis on the funkier side, lush with syncopated drums and punchy horns and mostly vocalised by Jimi Bell Martin and Curtis T. The contemplative slow groover ‘Who I Am’ is included above from their second LP Scratch My Itch. ‘Good Foot Down’ and ‘I Can’t Stand It’, two uptempo tracks from their first LP Sniffin and Snatchin, pull you to the dancefloor and are a clear nod to the master himself: James Brown.
Yes, to say Skrillex doesn’t have enough trophies in the cabinet is an understatement. The Grammy winning EDM producer has been nominated for the MTV Woodie Awards for the ‘Woodie of the Year’ and ’Performing Woodie’.
This MTV award show takes place during the South by Southwest Music Festival and is set up to honor and highlight the music voted ‘best’ by the large and passionate US college audience and communities.
Skrillex will be pitted against the likes of The Black Keys, Mac Miller, Franky Ocean, J.Cole and Foster the people. I wonder if Skrillex will incorporate a trophy cabinet into his performance?
Etnik‘s latest bomb is a remix of I Heart Shark‘s newest single, Summer. Etnik has eradicated the original feel good summer jam and completely morphed it into a dark, acid-infused explosion. With well-constructed synths and two major drops, this track will keep your head bumping until it’s glorious end.
British indie-electronic band Broadcast, has been around since the mid 90′s but this is actually a recent discovery for me. I felt the need to share immediately since it moved me so much from the get go. Their music isn’t as dark and aggravated as I normally gravitate towards but touches an emotional side that’s so pure and haunting. Their sounds are not exactly your typical electronic band with a strong influence from the 60′s psychedelic era. Lead singer Trish Keenan’s vocals have a quality that sounds many years before her time. Sadly on January 14th 2011, Keenan passed away due to complications with pneumonia. According to bassist James Cargill there will be new Broadcast material coming out soon with Keenan’s vocals that were recorded before her death. R.I.P.
Back in January, Dirty South, Thomas Gold, and Kate Elsworth released the massive vocal Prog House anthem, ‘Eyes Wide Open,’ on Dragan’s Phazing imprint, and now the time has come for the remix package. On March 2nd, two new remixes will be released on Beatport from Lenno and Felguk, and today we are excited to let you in on the preview of the Brazilian duo’s fresh, Electro take on the original.
Today’s news includes a Justice’s Rock minimix, Madeon’s latest release, Cazzette’s North American tour, and Maya Jane Coles’ Asia tour. Please read on after the jump for the full stories/music.
Rock Minimix from Justice for Annie Mac on BBC Radio 1
This is an excellent 5 minute mix from the French boys. There are too many great songs sampled here, so just take the short amount of time that it is and turn up the volume.
Madeon – Icarus
Madeon’s latest effort has been hyped for months now and yesterday it was finally released on his label Popcultur. Listen below and grab it on Beatport.
Gotye – Somebody That I Used To Know (TheFatRat Remix)
A brand new remix from TheFatRat was released today! Be on the look out for a GDD™ Spotlight (exclusive interview/1-hour mix) on him very soon.
FOUR North America tours within the first 6 months of any artist’s career is simply unheard of, if not outlandish – but for Swedish duo Alexander and Sebastian, or ‘CAZZETTE’ as the masses fondly know them, it came easy thanks to the partnership with Ash Pournouri, the man behind At Night Management and Ash Alliance! Having completed a hat trick of mammoth tours already, alongside good friend and internationally renowned global superstar Avicii, the time has come for them to embark alone…and what a way to go!
Taking in 15 high profile shows in just 7 weeks, including a debut appearance at the colossal UMF (on main stage nonetheless), the reigning kings of ‘dub-house’ are set to wow 10 separate states with what many publications have touted “the future of house music”. Their unique and catchy melodies, irresistible mix of pounding beats, luscious top-ends, crunchy electro and wobbling bass have grabbed the attention of EDM lovers and aficionados worldwide – not least in the super competitive USA. Launching a new genre in house music the duo refer to as Dub House, these guys really know how to tear things up!
Such is the buzz around these two Scandinavian prodigies that it remains quite unbelievable they’ve yet to release any original productions of their own! Their seismic shot to international superstardom has so far been realised solely off the back of some sparkling remixes for the likes of David Guetta, Swedish House Mafia and Avicii! If these remixes represent just a fraction of the duo’s capabilities, then what’s in store for the world’s audiences is guaranteed to be nothing short of immense. CAZZETTE play big and they play loud. Rest assured they will bring it on their next US tour – the biggest to date!

We may be a bit late on this track, but had to get it to you. You may remember way back in 2010 when Diplo & Don Diablo released “Make You Pop”, booties were shaking all over the place. A little over a week ago his 2012 edit surfaced. Accompanying the release was another hilariously akward video that only can pair with the Mad Decent boss man. The tracks upgrade it a high paced solid bass edit thats sure to bring back that “Get Down” feeling back from 2010.
Dutch producers Noisia have re-released a deluxe edition of their thumping 2010 LP, Split the Atom off of Deadmau5′slabelMau5trap. This deluxe edition includes a stack of bonus material, including brilliant remixes from Excision and Datsik, Kill the Noiseand Munchi,as well of two their newer releases, Tommy’s Theme and Could This Be.
The trio have been noted for achievements in the fields of break beat and drum and bass, having been previously celebrated as top of their field in production by Beatport in 2009, 2010 and at the Arena Drum and Bass Awards in 2010. This album doesn’t fall short of their achievements and displays their talents in electro, hip-hop, breaks and drum and bass. From the dirty electro-breaks influenced Machine Gun,which really sets the tone of the album; to the more grungy drum and bass track, Could This Be, you are promised intensely vigorous listen.
Despite its age, the effort gone into creating a stimulating and diverse aural palate through curtailing the some times monotonous hypnosis of drum and bass makes this album still sound fresh. This is extensively demonstrated through structuring, layering, integrating the for mentioned styles and diversifing rhythms using percussion and bass.
Some Favorites include Machine Gun, Shell Shock, Split the Atom and Tommy’s Theme (Munchi’s Fear is Weakness remix).
Plug in, kick back and get ready for some insanity, you won’t be disappointed!
Pelican Fly, the best label of the EU, prepares their latest release with a new one from Mister Tweeks. The EP can be previewed on SoundCloud right now and it’s sounding so heavy with its 4 OG tracks and remixes from Deebs, Sam Tiba, Richelle and Prince Jean. The catch is, it won’t be available to purchase until March 5th. To help with the wait, the P-Fly crew is giving away Mister Tweeks’ remix of Nina B’s club hit “Hollup”.
