Pop With Purpose

Question: Who is Florrie? Answer: Robyn’s biggest competition. The 21-year-old Bristol, UK bred stunner is a rarity in the pop realm, a multi-instrumentalist with talent, taste and smarts. She looks like a model, plays guitar and drums like a rock goddess, has the voice of an angel and should she find herself bored on a Thursday night, tackles remixing her own material. Pair all that musical prowess with a tastefully chosen A-list production team of Fred Falke and Xenomania and a liking for distributing her material free on her website, and Florrie arrives on the scene carrying the torch for forward-thinking pop music.
Florrie makes pop matter again with her debut EP, the four track Introduction. Lurking under the deceptively bland title is a collection of upbeat, breathy-voiced romps supported by production that unites rock and dance. “Call Of The Wild” gets my vote for standout track. When the thundering jungle guitar kicks in at the 0:34 mark I get the sudden and unavoidable urge to listen to Iggy Pop’s “Lust For Life”.
