Last month, we heard that The 2 Bears will be releasing their debut album on DFA records on the 30th of January, and I couldn’t be more thrilled. The highly anticipated release will feature some of my favorite tracks of last year including ‘Be Strong,’ ‘Bear Hug,’ and their newest single just released this week, ‘Work.’ The ‘Work’ EP is incredible. Not only is the original an embodiment of all that I love about The 2 Bears, but it also comes along with top-notch remixes from Toddla T, Oliver $, Supabeatz, and Franky Rizardo. Winter is just around the corner, and I know you dirty dancers can feel it. The best way to stay warm and keep that body movin? Why, your weekly dose of The Dirt of course. Today we bring you some of the top tunes procured by none other than aRod and BONES, a collaboration that represented the Official Pacific Festival mixtape, and then some. In this edition, we’ve decided to share with you our favorites in the Deep House category. Culminating from the origins of Garage, Soul, UK Funky, and good ol’ House, we’ve selected some of our favorites both classic and current. aRod:
• Chris Malinchak – No Secrets (ft. Damon C. Scott)

Like many others, I’ve been obsessed with this heavenly piece of soulful deep disco/deep house for the last month. It’s made appearances on some of the season’s best mixtapes (including Goldroom & Zimmer) along with countless makeout mixtapes all over the world.

• Jonas Rathsman – Love is My Middle Name

As we eagerly await the release of Jonas Rathsman’s “Tobago”, here’s an overlooked nugget of his from a few months back. This deep, 90s-tinged, house throwback is a nice lead in to “Tobago”. According to our man Leon at FRΞNCH ΞXPRΞSS, “Tobago” will be out in two weeks, which, under every circumstance, is Leon’s answer for all release dates: “TWO WEEKS”.

• Art Department feat. Seth Troxler – Living The Life (Aba Therapy Version)

The Art Department Essential Mix has become the most universally revered mix of 2011 here on GDD™. We Spotified the original version of this track on The Dirt #50 and today we feature the slightly deeper Aba Therapy Version which appeared on the Essential Mix. Set the mood with this one.

• Cadillac feat. Tesla Boy – Make You Feel (Marcos Cabral Remix)

This is another track in heavy rotation this month. Marcos Cabral takes the poppiness of the original out and adds a deep Balearic disco touch to this track, co-written (with vocals added) by Tesla Boy.

• Storm Queen – Look Right Through

I’m gonna book end my picks with another track featuring Damon C. Scott vocals, this time with Storm Queen, aka Morgan Geist. It’s a classic piece of deep boogie that’s an homage to house music’s Chicago & Detroit roots.

• Claptone – She Loves You (Original Mix) √+

Introducing the secret crew of some well-known former stage magicians, members of Claptone came to bring magic to your DJ-bag with 4 slices of jacking house. Less than a week out and already heavily supported by the likes of Tensnake, Julio Bashmore, Jesse Rose, Claude VonStroke, Round Table Knights, and Hot Chip (just to name a few). Make ‘em Clap To This.

• Fur Coat & Argenis Brito – Space Ballad (Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs Remix) √+

Our london boy T.E.E.D. takes this Ballad straight to the moon in a deep bass shuttle. You may laugh at that now but once the low end takes off you’ll be scrambling for your space helmet. Another stellar release on Crosstown Rebels.

• FCL – Let’s Go (Original Mix) √+

The elusive Belgians duo take house in its earliest (Garage) form – soulful vocals, über simple piano tunes, and simply added bass. This leaves you with one of the year’s best dance tracks, and some of the most purified house out there!

• SLG feat. Smoonly – Feeling 4 U (Catz N Dogz Remix) √+

First heard this in Round Table Knights Summer Mix 2010; insatiable remix by the Berlin-based Catz N Dogz. Once the 1 minute mark and the hi-hats kick you’ll be body jackin before you know what hit you. Check out more of these boys on Get Physical Music.

• Young Lovers & Lil’ Bo Tweak – Keep On (Original Mix) √+

Another side project of the UK jack of all trades Hervé (YL) and Trevor Loveys (LBT). This tune is the proud bastard child of UK Garage, UK Funky and 2-step in the best way a collaboration could produce, one of the many creations on Herve’s new Deep Thrills vol. 1  full length VA release.

Detboi’s 2nd Album Curse Of The Drums Vol. 2 was recently been released on Herve’s label Cheap Thrills. It is a party box of very eclectic jams, and I couldn’t of described it better in one sentence than across the pond via UK BASS REVIEWS:

Detboi truly showcases his immense production talents with 9 tracks spanning a multitude of genres and styles, ranging from the deep jacking tech house grooves of ‘Partys Zipped Up’ to jazzy funky disco vibes of ‘Freaky Nights’ and touching bass on everything in between.

My personal favorite tracks on the album are ‘Party’s Zipped Up’ and ‘Pick It Up.’ ‘Party’s Zipped Up’ has a great midget house vibe, with tribal drums and bouncey samples that roll it along too well. ‘Pick It Up’ is a (Busta Rhymes) vocal led 2-step garage groove with an energetic bouncy acid bassline– perfect for those late ones. In its entirety, there’s something on this album for everyone and is truly a diverse reflection on all things DRUMS.

Raf Rundell and Joe Goddard AKA The 2 Bears are up there with my top 5 acts of 2011 so far. Their refreshing sound has been evident in all 4 of their EPs since March of 2010, and it seems as if they show no signs of letting up. With elements of Garage, Funk, Tech, and their own brand of Electronica, The 2 Bears consistently outdo themselves with brilliant production. Last month, the duo put out a promo mix for last weekend’s Bestival on the Isle of Wight, and it’s a good one. Complete with plenty of originals off of their newest EP, Bear Hug, as well as a few from the likes of LOL Boys, Toddla T, Jamie XX, and more, this hour+ long mix will definitely get you movin’. Can we please get them out to tour the US as soon as possible? Who’s with me?
