Vancouver-based Electro DJ/artist/producer, Felix Cartel, will be releasing his new full-length album,Popular Music, digitally on February 23rd via Dim Mak Records. In support of the new album, he will be touring North America between the months of February and April. I’m definitely going to check him out his Toronto show at Tattoo Rock Parlour.

Miles Kane released one of my top ten records of the year, ‘Colour of the Trap’. Might be a big surprise to most of you considering we didn’t talk about it much and the US really kind of had this fly over their heads. Miles has a great voice and did a great job with The Rascals and The Last of the Shadow Puppets, both must haves by the way. ‘Colour of the Trap’ throws in the 60′s pop, some glam a la Bolan, and some James Bond theme style drums and guitars. A good album the whole way through.

He is going to be doing the headlining thing in the UK next April, so bummed no US dates yet, but check him out if you’re in the motherland.

Bombay Bicycle Club – Video Games (Lana Del Rey Cover)

I’m just recalling one epic week in Fall 2008. It was the last week of October — that week, I attended 3 events, all while working part-time at the community pool and going to school full-time. On the Monday, I saw Anberlin perform at the Phoenix; Wednesday, I saw Parisian electro duo, Justice, at Circa; and Friday, I attended a Halloween party at Circa, where Toronto’s own Thunderheist played a set. It was one heck of a week for me – I think I barely passed a sociology test that week too. Anyways, Justice is back with their latest LP Audio, Video, Disco. They will embark on four months of extensive touring, bringing hard-hitting electro dance parties to Australia, Japan, Europe and North America. Unfortunately, there seems to be no Toronto date…hopefully they’ll add one. *fingers crossed*

One of the best folk shows I attended this past year was William Fitzsimmons’ show at Toronto’s Horseshoe Tavern.
