I’ve watched this 100 times but I’m putting it here for safe keeping anyway. And even though “Big Spender” is already an original by Theophilus London, I’m crossing my fingers that Rocky and the ASAP mob take it and make their own bootleg because, well, Theo isn’t really doing this track justice.
Theophilus London started making noise way back in fall of 2010. I enjoyed his stuff, and he then put out his album, which featured his moody, bitter, yet optimistic, love letter of a song, ‘Why Even Try’. A duet with Sara Quin of Tegan & Sara, who is awesome. The pairing of these two is just stellar. RAC, the Remix Artist Collective, which is making some of the best remixes today, put their magic melody on to ‘Why Even Try’ and turned it into an upbeat, bouncy tune. Superior to the original and a lot more fun to listen to. This should be on every summer playlist. “I’ll paint you red and stick horns on your head.”
Besides being the most stylistically forward cat in the game right now, Theophilus London is quickly staking his name among the world’s top young rappers. I’ve got two great remixes to kick-start your weekend. The first one is a freshly released remix of ‘Why Even Try‘ by Remix Artist Collective (RAC). This lighthearted remix makes you want to want to skip across street corners and stroke your lover’s cheek while whispering sweet nothings. Boston’s Soul Clap speeds up and trips out ‘Flying Overseas‘, muffling Theo’s voice to have it gently ride along some eerily warm pads and always necessary 808s.
Theophilus London has now worked with TV On The Radio producer mastermind Dave Sitek a whopping three times; once on Sitek’s Maximum Balloon debut, another on London’sLover’s Holiday EP, and now on a new track called “Field Of Dreams.” The song was apparently supposed to appear on the rapper’s forthcoming debut, Timez Are Weird These Days, but instead will show up on a mixtape London is dropping shortly after, called Prince TL. Like their previous two collaborations, “Field Of Dreams” has elements of disco and new wave influences, the chorus particularly sharing a resemblance to Tunde Adebimpe’s delivery. Hear it below; Timez Are Weird These Days is out July 19th.

From the early to mid-2000s, if you saw a track that had the words “featuring Erlend Øye” as part of the track name, you knew you were in for a treat. Erlend Øye‘s silky smooth voice made him a favorite amongst many artists to collaborate with, including Röyksopp, Phonique, Feist & DJ Hell. On top of being the go-to guy for an artist in need of a top tier vocal collab, he also had his hands in several personal projects including Kings of Convenience & The Whitest Boy Alive. Erlend Øye has been on sabbatical over the last few years and since then, one man has proven to be a worthy successor as The Man With The Golden Touch: Theophilus London.
In baseball, he’s a five-tool player. In basketball he’s a triple double threat. No matter what genre he’s lyrically slicin’ & dicin’, Theophilus London gets the job done in the coolest way possible. He’ll take a dreamwave track from Futurecop! & make it dreamier. He’ll take an electro-sex song from Jimmy Edgar & make it electric. And just when you think a tune by Ellie Goulding can’t get any better, he makes a pop tune POP.
His new single, “Last Name London”, is the first track off his highly anticipated debut LP “Timez Are Weird These Days” (Out July 19th). Ungh.
Oops was written by Tweet and Missy Elliott (produced by Timbaland) for Tweet’s 2002 debut album, Southern Hummingbird. Theophilus had this to say about this cover track and his mixtape, “I Want You”:
Was a hard one covering this track. Def. wanted to cover an edgy song on “I WANT YOU” Shouts to Hudson Mohawke for killing the sounds

CLOCKWORK hit us up with his latest remix. The track is quite complex in that it contains so many different elements. Boiled down, its a hot electro house track with some country twang in the intro. Say what? That’s just my interpretation and to be honest, I wasn’t expecting the thick bassline. It all works together though.
The LA native has a lot of new material coming out within these next couple months including a new EP, an official remix for Miami Horror, a remix for Teenage Riot Records, and more. He’s also booked some show dates in Canada in November, so these next few months will be very busy. Check the links below to keep in touch.
