Allison Mosshart and Jamie Hince aka garage rockers The Kills were in Australia this past weekend for the Splendour In The Grass festival along with Kanye West, Coldplay, Modest Mouse, James Blake, Cut Copy, Foster The People, the list honestly goes on and on, and so far whatever reviews have surfaced about the show have been absolutely, well, splendid.

The Kills released their Blood Pressures LP to positive reviews back in early April, and the band is still promoting the record with an international tour and a new single. On July 19, the band will release a new 7-inch single featuring album opener “Future Starts Slow” backed with new non-album track, “Blue Moon”.

Arguably the best festival on the Australian circuit, Splendour in the Grass will return this year to Woodfordia, in Woodford, QLD for the second year straight. After relocating from Byron Bay due to council redevelopment last year, the festival enjoyed record numbers and unprecedented amount of good times. After witnessing it first hand last year along with Ubbs. it’s safe to say that if you’re in the country you should be trying to buy tickets.

It’s beginning to appear that Blood Pressures will be the most polished and accessible of The Kills‘ catalogue, one that is somewhat prolific considering that frontwoman Alison Mosshart has dedicated the last two years to her side project, The Dead Weather. The duo of her and Jamie Hince dropped the first single “Satellite” from the forthcoming album a few weeks ago and are now giving away the next tune for free, in a swap for your email address (that totally has become the thing to do these days).

The Kills’ latest single “Satellite” is a great song, all the classic scratchy and echo-y guitar you love this band for with a little reggae shimmy. There’s a great video for it now – a drunken, woozy road-trippin’ film-noir set in a fabulous old car in a beautiful, vacant place, all thick clouds and sickly neon lights, that’s seen better days. It’s all cut up like a weird dream, sometimes pleasurable and sometimes a nightmare – the lights blur and fade in and out, everything trembles, what’s happening gets shuffled in with what happened, what will happen. It begs repeat viewings. Check it out while you wait for the record, Blood Pressures, coming April 4.
