The Field – “Then It’s White” (MP3)

It’s almost five minutes into the album before there is any variation. Whereas Axel Willner’s critically acclaimed debut release From Here We Go Sublime was minimalist in the sense that each track took a melodic idea, slowly but surely built upon it and created subtle variations, Looping State Of Mind, as its title suggests, refuses to progress once it has introduced a particular musical phrase.

MP3: The Field – “Then It’s White”

09 06 2011

Stockholm producer Axel Willner, better known as simply, The Field, makes iridescent and devastating minimal electronic music that -- at least for this guy -- sometimes takes a dozen listens to really sink in. We previously reported that Willner's new album, Looping State of Mind, would be available for mental absorption on October 25th. According to Pitchfork, the album has since been pushed up to an October 10th physical release date; Looping is currently available digitally, for those impatient shoppers. Today also brings "Then It's White", Looping State of Mind's penultimate number and the first promotional track Willner's released from the album.

Looping State of Mind

08 18 2011

Been waiting for the new release from Axel Willner, aka The Field for some time now. His last album, Yesterday & Today was a definite favorite of mine. His new album Looping State of Mind is out October 25th on Kompakt. Here’s the title track for your listening pleasure.

Masquer – Happiness

05 02 2011

Masquer es una banda de Estocolmo, que después de sacar algunas rolas hace más o menos un año y medio, están de regreso con “Happiness”. Una rola que remezcló nada más y nada menos que The Field. Acá dejo las dos, enjoy.

Pyramid

11 02 2010

The storyof Maserati’s newest release “Pyramid of the Moon” is interesting because the world was never meant to hear the song. Penned by the late Jerry Fuchs (drummer to DFA bands Juan Maclean and Holy Ghost! in addition to Maserati) the song is finally being released on a limited edition 12″ on Temporary Residence. The flipside features a remix from The Field. The original is a hefty eight-minute expanse, but below there’s an edit to whet your taste.

Varied Temperaments

03 21 2010

A more obscure adulation is the premise of this weeks selection. These tracks are far apart in their desired atmospheres of stylization, with their stripped down tendencies unfolding new layers amongst every fold. However, this fine foray of minimalist temperaments, rich in organic texture; drives a continually powerful force upon the left-field influences that the techno and house scene has to offer.

Winding and grinding and ripped up flooring, shatters our ears with these high range minimalist builds. Goldfish Un Der Dulz consistently pull driving minimal bangers out the bag, check their Hi Freaks imprint for releases by the likes of Piemont, Suedmilch and David Keno.

Goldfish Und Der Dulz - Love Me Fender

Gimikk are the brainchild of Daniel Sanchez and E-Contact. 'Love Me' doesn't sound particularly special until those creepy vocals seep in, elapsing in a screech of high frequency scrapes.

Gimikk - Love Me

It feels rather educational listening to Levon Vincent. It's as if his structures denote a pure sense of maturity, whereby all unnecessary elements are stripped from their core, resounding in a rich but stark bubble of house syncopation.

Levon Vincent - A Melody For Everyone

Brooding sub cones and deep sea compression play to the dim warehouse vibes of Peter Van Hoesen's acidic techno. That wump, wump, wump just sounds like it's come out the washer, making it a perfect late floor cleanser for the dirtiest of dwellers.

Peter Van Hoesen - Continued Care

Pantha du Prince lays another consistently solid release on Rough Trade, with Four Tet touching up the original with a subtle strain of arpeggio bleeps and flanged background effects. The original is truly inspired with it's multi-looped vocal feed, go and buy it here!

Pantha du Prince - Stick To My Side (Four Tet Version)

Released back in 2007, 'From Here We Go Sublime' remains to be The Field's melodic pop masterpiece of shoegaze techno. Deep inhalation in accordance with a bout of blank stares, have helped pass many a journey with these transatlantic sounds in mind.

The Field - Everday

Gold Panda

This Gold Panda remix is sounding pretty fresh so far. It also gives me an excuse to post “Quitters Raga”, since it hasn’t shown up on here yet. The track will definitely be on my “Best of ‘09″ list.

A new festival is popping up in Stockholm this summer, it’s called OSC09. It will take place between August 13th-August 15th, it’s a collaboration between Restaurang Landet and the art centre Färgfabriken.
