Plastic Plates x SIA

03 24 2011

Since we featured Plastic Plates on the blog not long ago it seems the ball has finally started rolling on mainstream recognition of his refined and delightful skill set. His dope remix of SIA’s “cloud” has also now been released for free download, and on top of this he has also recently remixed Gypsy & the cats smash single ‘Jona Vark’.
With a sound similar to how most predicted Aeroplane to sound following their ‘Friendly Fires’ remix, Plastic Plates gets deep with his basses, fresh with his arps and creative with his beats. For lovers of analogue sounds and relaxed BPMs. Check his soundy for more jams and don’t sleep on this guy.

Plastic Plates

02 27 2011

Props to my bro and the Magician for bringing this to my attention. Plastic Plates from Sydney and currently residing in LA brings the throw back house vibe reminiscent of fellow Aussies and cutters kids nile delta and das moth. I don’t much else other then that. His sound is fresh yet familiar and gives the impression that he’s been perfecting his craft for some time.
Two tracks for streaming today, the first is an ultra smooth remix of Sia’s cloud. This is pretty much how’d you expect the aeroplane remix to sound before they went there separate ways. The second track Social Studies by Body Language, the remix featured on the Magician’s tape, is a slow jam which sounds like it could have easily been lifted off of the latest cut copy album. This single is available for the bargain price of 1 bean from Body Languages bandcamp.

I’ve just been told the SIA remix should be available for release on Aussie label inertia shortly.

Fan plastic plates on Face to stay up to date on details, and why not follow him on Twitter. Sit back and watch this guy blow up.

Sia – “I’m In Here” Music Video

Sia Im In Here Music Video music videos

Australian chanteuse Sia has released a video for her beautiful, swooning single “I’m In Here” – it’s a video as stunning as the song that soundtracks it. Sia’s tender, delicate vocals seem ready to break at any second, and the piano beneath sounds, comparatively, as concrete as thunder. The video sees her alone on a plane with no pilot or other passengers, above a cloudy landscape – a situation as tenuous and dangerous as the weakness and fragility of Sia’s voice. Watch and listen.

Beastly Bits #126

08 02 2010

Um, you guys...this weekend was killa rad, and for many a good reason. Betwixt friend hangs, shows, parties, and a splash of something awesome (vague...yep), there is a perma-grin on my mug and it's not going away any time soon.

Sia – Clap Your Hands (Doorly Remix)

07 23 2010

Wiggle and wobble and shimmy and bounce! Doorly's back in Beastonia with a mighty fine edit of Sia's infectious single, Clap Your Hands. Be forewarned: this ain't your momma's pop mix.

This edit's got me revisiting her stellar release, We Are Born, which came out earlier this summer.

I suggest you do the same.

Sia – We Are Born, Album Review

RATE We Are Born:

’s We Are Born is the Swedish Australian (we’re still swooning over Robyn, oops!) singer’s poppiest yet, a point hammered home by the lyrics of lead track “The Fight”: “We made it through the darkness to the light. Uh huh, we fought, but still we won the fight.” Unfortunately, it seems that has traded some of her heart for the superficial pop hooks strewn about the album – the book’s cover may look nice, but the story inside just isn’t as engaging.

The main weakness of We Are Born’s is sheer repetition. These songs latch onto a single lyric/melody pair and drive it into the ground. sounds great and the grooves are good enough, but listening through the album’s thirteen songs sounds a bit like listening to thirteen one-minute-long clips on triple repeat. There’s enough content here for a twenty minute EP, but stretched over forty-five it’s a bit tough to get through.

There are moments of brilliance on this record. ’s voice rings true on songs like “Be Good To Me” and “You’ve Changed.” “Never Gonna Leave Me” features a great little grace note-laden passage in the middle of a party-starting, uplifting song. “Oh Father” gives the rope she needs to really flex her vocal chords – but again, that tune falls prey to over-repetition. We Are Born is an interesting direction for , and a welcome nod to the direct influence of predecessors like Madonna and Kylie, but this songstress is still finding her feet in a new space. I have complete faith that ’s next release will find a niche in rock-tinged dance pop (see “Big Girl Little Girl” and “Stop Trying”) but this one misses the mark. There’s a diamond buried in the rough, but We Are Born ain’t it.
