Scion A/V kind of kills it on all fronts, from music, art, film and lifestyle, to the fact that's oft-now overlooked: um, yes they are still, at the heart, the spawn of a car company. So it's no surprise that the collective chooses to feature artists and DJs that (bad pun coming...) really rev my engine. Up next, and debuting right here right now, is a neat sit-down and spit with the Night Slugs via Fool's Gold via Acephale Records mixmaster, Kingdom.
In the clip below, Blu Jemz of Turntable Lab Radio interviews Kingdom and we get to learn a little more about what the disc-dude is influenced by, how rad it is to walk behind the CD-J decks with a folder of spinners, and what new releases and EPs are in the works.
Reminder: Kingdom is spinning during the Fool's Gold-curated Pool Party at the Williamsburg Waterfront on Sunday, August 22. Chooons.
Acephale tend to drop releases from the likes of Salem, Air France, Memory Tapes, Memory Cassette and even Australia’s Midnight Juggernauts.. all fitting that weird sorta different but totally listenable tunes category.
Mindreader ft Shyvonne from Kingdom was and is a strange choice for the label but has totally worked in their favour by combing a progressive house tune and fitted with remixes from grimesters like l-vis 1990 and bok-bok (be sure to check their US/UK snack challenge) and then putting their roster to good use and popping cfcf and fellow noise maker Todd Edwards on there.
The result is a track that won’t likely hit the clubs anytime soon but still reveals elements of the original we can appreciate.
If your still in luck you can grab the uber limited foil embossed 10′ with only 500 pressed or do the norm and spend some digital bucks at Fools Gold to get the goods.
We love all things Kingdom and this stunning rendition of his amazing new single “Mind Reader” from Montreal native and icy disco connosseur CFCF is no exception.
We’ve been waiting for this track to drop for what seems like an eternity. Kingdom gave us one of the biggest and baddest tracks of 2009. Now the good people over at Fool’s Gold is releasing the digital EP (grab the beautiful vinyl copy from Acephale Records over here) and it comes backed with some serious remixes from Night Slugs hero Bok Bok, house legend Todd Edwards and this flexing number from Kingdoms bass brethren over in London,L-Vis 1990.
Finally, after what seems to be forever, Fool’s Gold has released my secret weapon to the masses. What secret weapon, you ponder? Why, no other than Kingdom’s tracks “Mindreader” and “You”. I wrote about these a long time ago here on Hot Bizzies and it’s been a fun wait, as Kingdom has grown to become one of the best producers and DJs in the game. With his percussion-heavy bass bangers layered with diva vocals, his sets and mixtapes are always a blast. And now, with the release of this EP we can finally rejoice.
The EP is backed by remixes from his UK family Bok Bok and L-Vis 1990 as well as the legendary Todd Edwards. If you were lucky, you ordered the 10″ from Acephale with it’s silver foil accents and slightly different design. If you weren’t lucky, don’t worry, Fool’s Gold will re-release it. Until then, you can purchase digitally on iTunes, Boomkat, and Amazon.
