Scissor Sisters X Boys Noize

04 15 2011

Boys Noize put together this mixtape featuring remixes of several Scissor Sisters songs and bonus goodies from his own label, adding up to an hour of really fun, weekend-worthy music.

On a personal note: finals are almost over and then I’ll be moving back to Texas, so it will still be a couple of weeks before things get (hopefully!) back to normal posting speed. Thanks for being patient with my little blog.

Any Which Way

12 19 2010

Up until I saw Tensnake live, I was pretty much on the hater bandwagon. For some reason, I just didn’t “get” “Coma Cat” and there was something about the “I get get” usage that really bothered me. It’s unexplainable. However, I’m now a fan of the snake and have decided that the Mark Knight remix is an ample scratch for the house music itch (I still can’t get into the original.)

Anyway, comas and cats aside, his remix of Scissor Sisters‘ “Any Which Way” is a song that I didn’t have any problems getting into. It was given out for free as part of Downtown Records’s holiday sampler and I feel pretty confident of it’s bloggability factor.

Recap: Scissor Sisters Get Super Hot, and a Little Sweaty, at Terminal 5

08 25 2010

Sporting lots of leather and no lace, Scissor Sisters returned to their hometown of New York City last night, and took Terminal 5 on a tour of their biggest hits, spanning three full-length albums which culminated in their most recent, and strongest, release, Night Work. And work the night, and the stage, they did.

Starting with the title track from said album, the entrance to the stage proved precisely what was in store for the predominantly male, and seemingly way oversold crowd. Lights, latex and limber moves abounded as Jake Shears and Ana Matronix shared vocal duties over the course of the evening, pairing up for calisthenics during Any Which Way and Whole New Way, the first of which you can catch video of below.

Small players Del Marquis and Baby Daddy take an obvious back seat to the glitz and glamour of the two frontspair, but their musical finessings proved easy to swallow, and ultimately outshone the vocals on a number of the songs. Crowd energy hit a peaked high when the troupe launched into debut hit, Take Your Mama Out, after Ana and Co. dedicated it to all the families, including their own, in the audience.

Working the night in the most sensual way, Scissor Sisters were welcomed back home with wide open, and spirited arms.

Back in the Groove

08 18 2010

Recently there’s been way too much Java programming and Modern Warfare 2 and not enough music. I’ve been listening around and I ran into The Coolidge Effect

In biology and psychology, the term Coolidge effect describes a phenomenon—seen in nearly every mammalian species in which it has been tested—whereby both males and females exhibit continuous high sexual performance given the introduction of new receptive partners.

The term comes from an old joke, according to which U.S. President Calvin Coolidge and his wife allegedly visited a poultry farm. During the tour, Mrs. Coolidge inquired of the farmer how his farm managed to produce so many fertile eggs with such a small number of roosters. The farmer proudly explained that his roosters performed their duty dozens of times each day.

“Tell that to Mr. Coolidge,” pointedly replied the First Lady.

The President, overhearing the remark, asked the farmer, “Does each rooster service the same hen each time?”

“No,” replied the farmer, “there are many hens for each rooster.”

“Tell that to Mrs. Coolidge,” replied the President.

Anyways, here’s the music:
