Kings of Leon – “The Immortals” (Royksopp Remix)

12 15 2011

Voila, the nine-minute Royksopp remix of Kings of Leon’s “The Immortals” you’ve always wanted!

The Norwegian electro duo have to execute quite a few alchemistic production tricks to make trancey rave gold out of KoL’s original Southern rock anthem, but they’re more than capable – pitchshifted, chopped-and-screwed vocals and plenty of synthesized atmospheric effects maintain the anthemic massiveness you probably like Kings of Leon for and shift the whole thing into another genre entirely.

Both artists’ talent is visible here – Royksopp’s deft command of maximalist techno and KoL’s skill at classic-rock songcraft are both on display. Check it out.

Getting Back Into the Swing of Things

12 15 2011

Well, if I’ve never mentioned before; I’m doing my Masters in Science and I’m getting close to completing it aka shit’s hitting the fan. I just finished my big presentation, so all is calm for now until I have to start writing my thesis. Before any of that, holidays come first and the blog just got pushed back to near the top. Listening to music again, I actually haven’t really listened to much other than the big albums that came out recently for the last month. First time listening to Hype Machine in a while and hearing some great tracks, first on the list is the Adventure Club remix of Metric’s Collect Call which strangely reminds me of Ellie Goulding‘s Starry Eyed. The originals are vaguely similar, but the remix makes it a lot closer for me. Strangely enough, the Adventure Club remix is dubstep, but I don’t hate it. Very strange. Posting the Russ Chimes remix of Ellie Goulding with this. Next track is the Ipaneema mash-up Rock your Weapon at the Cinema which has the Madeon remix of Deadmau5‘s Raise Your Weapon, the Skrillex remix of Benny Benassi‘s Cinema, and a little shout out to MJ Rock With You at the beginning. I was going to post the Madeon remix as well because it’s such a great remix but I already posted it a while back. Lastly, the Royskopp remix of Kings of Leon The Immortals, intro threw me off a bit but what a great track.

GOLD029: THE SOUND OF ARROWS

11 11 2011

Over the years, we've gotten real familiar with Swedish pop heroes The Sound of Arrows. They were the face of our first widescreen 12" release back in 2009, and now two years later they've readied their debut full-length, Voyages, for launch. As true auteurs of the pop music medium, Stefan Storm and Oskar Gullstrand have crafted a flawless aesthetic, from the cinematic grandeur of their music to their visually stunning music videos. The Swedish maestros have their euphoric formula down to a science, and Voyages sits comfortably among our absolute favorite albums of the year. In our opinion The Sound of Arrows are simultaneously the most impressive and exciting thing to happen to pop music in recent memory, so it's with great pleasure that we announce our next release, a special edition AA-side 12" celebrating our two favorite cuts from the album, "Wonders" and Conquest".

All pulsing, skyscraping synths and bittersweet vocals, "Wonders" simmers in a magic cauldron of nostalgia, as Stefan Storm's heart-piercing refrain lights up the mic and stardust showers from the ceiling like confetti. Then it's time for "Conquest" to shine, turning in the performance of a lifetime in the record's best supporting single role. Coming off like Royksopp on a sugar high, "Conquest" churns along as red velvet synths course through your veins and the duo rally around a triumphant chorus for the ages on what might just be our favorite track of theirs yet. Together, they'll make you feel like the last child emperor in the galaxy, like anything is possible, and it's a wonderful sense of omnipotence. The "Wonders" / "Conquest" double A-side will close out our release year on December 19th, but is available for preorder in the Neon Gold Shop now. Own the magic for yourself.

New Royksopp

09 21 2011

One of two newly released songs from Norwegian electro-duo Royksopp is their edit/remix of ‘The Irrepressibles”. A nice, chill, mellow song to go along with Vancouver’s never ending chill and mellow weather. The rain has begun, so stay at home and listen to songs that make your mind wander. Start with this one,

MP3: New Röyksopp – “Shores of Easy”

09 02 2011

There are rumors afloat that electronic veterans, Röyksopp, might be working on their follow up to last year’s dark and instrumental opus, Senior. Seemingly out of nowhere yesterday the pair posted over 25 minutes of music onto their website in the form of two lengthy new tracks – one of which a remix of London orchestral pop outfit The Irrepressibles’ “In This Shirt” – and they’ve generously made both available for download. How sweet of them.
