MRTN feat. Lovisa Negga – Slow

01 18 2012

Swedish producer MRTN has teamed up with Robyn‘s drummer Povel to make an EP out on Top Billin.

MRTN and Povel are best know for their 2010 track ‘High’ which was a raving floor filler that was produced with one purpose in mind only, to destroy any dance floor.

Their latest track ‘Slow’ on the other hand is an off centre pop track with strange noises and influences in it. Their is something dreamtime about the vocals as they roll like the wheels of a train through out the whole track.

We can also reveal this will be the song to remix for the Top Billin x Stoney Roads remix competition!

Video: Robyn Performs on SNL

12 12 2011

Robyn’s late 2010 LP, Body Talk was given a hot in the arm this weekend and was invited to play SNL. The Scandinavian pop veteran brought two of Body Talk‘s best tracks – “Call Your Girlfriend” and “Dancing On My Own” – to the stage, in her usual quirky pixie-in-spandex getup. Watch below:

LIVING BY THE MINUTE.

08 16 2011
Swedish prodigy Tove Styrke was already going to be your new crush, but now with an extreme makeover from fellow countrymen Familjen, she's even more irresistible. The Familjen revision starts simply enough with an infectious piano progression padded by anxious handclaps that quickly time-warps into an alternate dimension. Like a pixie Robyn, Styrke's voice flo-oh-oats by on the wings of Familjen's buoyant, fairytale instrumental as dragons circle high above breathing heavy synth plumes. But like Calvin Harris's "Feel So Close" rolling face on uncut ecstasy, Familjen's mix scales great heights in a single bound, the beat acting as a safety net for the vocals to fall back on before everything goes trampoline for the chorus and the post-chorus. Sure, this track may have quietly come out in late 2010, but you better believe it still sounds every bit as glorious in the carefree summer of 2011.

MP3: Noah & The Whale – “Call Your Boyfriend” (Robyn Cover)

08 12 2011

U.K. folk rockers Noah And The Whale recently released their third record, Last Night on Earth, and have been on the concert circuit ever since. The boys just stopped by BBC Radio 1′s Live Lounge to perform an interesting rendition of Robyn’s “Call Your Girlfriend,” from last year’s exhilarating Body Talk album, dubbed here as “Call Your Boyfriend.”

Covercentric: Noah And The Whale Cover Robyn

08 11 2011

Radio 1′s Live Lounge seems to revolve around Robyn these days. A couple weeks ago, she was on the show to perform her new single “Call Your Girlfriend”, and now Noah And The Whale has picked it for their mystery cover. The alt-folk band totally transformed the ebullient original into a Tom Petty-style track. They shouldn’t have bothered changing the words though, it could make a cool twist. Stream/download their take below.

I don’t have much to say about their own output, except that “L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N.” was quite a guilty pleasure of mine.

Covercentric: Robyn Covers Coldplay For Live Lounge

07 26 2011

Fresh off the oven, here is Robyn‘s cover of Coldplay’s “Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall”, which just aired on Radio 1′s Live Lounge with Fearne Cotton today. At first I thought it was an odd choice, as I think the original is not quite one of Coldplay’s finest moments, but I really do like Robyn’s synthy take of it. Then again, like Coldplay, she has always proudly worn her heart on sleeve. You see, it’s a good thing tears never show in a pouring waterfall… (okay that needs a bit work). I have ripped both the cover and the live performance of “Call Your Girlfriend” for your convenience. Download away!

MP3: Robyn – Call Your Girlfriend (Live Lounge)

I’m glad Radio 1 is supporting the new single, she deserves another bonafide hit. Have you seen the Greg James parody of the video yet? Good viral promotion!

As a bonus, I’ll throw in her earlier Live Lounge acoustic performance of “Dancing On My Own”. It’s a shame it wasn’t included on Body Talk to complete the acoustic trilogy. You can find it on the Live Lounge Vol. 5 comp, though.
