Pete Tong has decided to let his fans choose which songs will go into his end of the year show on BBC Radio 1. This morning, he asked his fans to answer the following (and provided poll options):

“What were the hottest tunes of 2011? Help me compile my end of year show by selecting you favourites from the list below (or add any you think we missed)”

All you have to do to be a part of Pete Tong’s selection for 2011′s hottest tunes is go ‘Like’ Pete on Facebook (shouldn’t you already?) and take a look at the poll options! Don’t see anything you like? Add your own! Personally I voted for Miguel Campbell’s Something Special, but apparently a lot of people like this dude Avicii, whoever that is…

One of the hardest workers in EDM today, Pete Tong maintains a hectic DJ schedule and dedicates his life to exposing the freshest tracks and emerging talent via his radio shows. This year, on top of his touring festival appearances and residencies at Pacha Ibiza and Encore Beach Club in Vegas, Tong re-launched his legendary FFRR imprint – once home to Orbital, Brand New Heavies, Jay-Z, Armand Van Helden and the man himself – under the umbrella of Warner Music Group.

With one hell of a biography, it seems unsurprising that people have forgotten about Pete Tong’s production talents. This week, the British Dance Music Ambassador released his new ‘Wardance’ EP on Toolroom, featuring remixes from Matthias Tanzmann and Tom Flynn. For the past two summers, the Cadenza label’s Vagabundos party has been hailed as one of Ibiza’s biggest success stories. Taking place every Sunday at Pacha, Luciano‘s label have brought a new edge to the club scene in Ibiza Town by upping the profile of a more groovy minimal techno sound.

This summer’s Vagabundos parties have seen sets from the Cadenza regulars as well as a host of outside talent including Carl Craig, DJ Koze, Dixon and Kenny Larkin. However, it seems only fitting that Cadenza head honcho Luciano should be the one to close out another successful season. Radio 1 were at Pacha to record the Chilean’s final set which aired on Pete Tong‘s Essential Mix show over the weekend:

In the wee hours of yesterday Julio Bashmore became the latest artist to feature on Pete Tong‘s legendary Essential Mix show. Hailing from Bristol, Matthew Walker’s been kicking up a lot of heat over the past 18 months for both his unique brand of funky-infused house music as Julio Bashmore, and his bassier Velour sideproject on Night Slugs with Hyetal.

It was his sublime Everybody Needs A Theme Tune EP on London upstart PMR at the beginning of this year that catapulted him into the underground spotlight, with A-side ‘Battle For Middle You’ receiving widespread chart support by everyone from Modeselektor, Brodinski and Sound Pellegrino Thermal Team, to Wolf+Lamb, Alex Niggemann and Maya Jane Coles.

This latest Essential Mix is a great journey through the record bag belonging to Bristol’s freshest export, and one of the most versatile EM’s we’ve heard all year:

It was a big weekend for the Swedish House Mafia with their BBC Radio 1 Essential Selection. Not only did they sit in for the legendary Pete Tong, but they also debuted a brand new track, “Antidote,” that they co-produced with Knife Party, Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen’s new project. Yesterday, Steve Angello released his highly anticipated edit of Nari & Milani’s “Kendo” for free on his Facebook page. The track flows from an acid beginning to a climaxing big room synth explosion that may take you by surprise. It’s one of those tracks that you hope you don’t play out, but I just can’t help it!

UK’s Queen of House: Maya Jane Coles has been the latest artist to deliver an Essential Mix for Pete Tong‘s legendary show on Radio 1. At 23 years old, Maya’s already developed a name for herself as one of the hardest working producers in dance music today, racking up releases on Hypercolour, Defected, 20:20 Vision, and Anja Schneider‘s Mobilee label to name a few. Last week she released a brilliant remix as part of Little Dragon‘s new EP, which is definitely worth checking out. In the meantime though, bliss out to two hours of mellow groovers courtesy of Maya Jane Coles and the Beeb:

The Chemical Brothers have recently composed the score to forthcoming Saoirse Ronan thriller Hanna. Dropping next tuesday, the 20 track record ranges from the serenely mellow ‘Hanna’s Theme’ to acid infused ‘Escape Wavefold’ and the frenetic ‘Hanna vs. Marissa’. Not every track is a thumper, but that’s got to be expected from a film soundtrack, keep your eyes and ears peeled for ’Container Park’, by far the most impressive track on the record.

The film itself is directed by Joe Wright, and stars Irish actress Saoirse Ronan, alongside Cate Blanchett and Eric Bana. Take a look at the trailer below, and be sure to grab Tom and Ed’s Essential Mix from back in ’95, which to this day remains one of the most versatile EM’s to grace the airwaves:
