‘Don’t Fuck With My Money’ by Penguin Prison is the grooviest song around right now. And yeah I am using the word ‘grooviest’ to describe it, because it’s filled with sly synths, thick bass, soft slapping drum machines and funked up vocals. I’ve been waiting for a studio release of ‘Don’t Fuck With My Money’ for a little over a year now and didn’t want to post about Penguin Prison till it was out, because it’s his best track by far.
I first heard Penguin Prison back in August of 2010 when his mix of Erik Hassle’s song ‘Hurtful’ came on at a party I was at at Macao Trading Co. Collective dancing ensued.
Penguin Prison is Chris Glover, a one man act, pumping out disco infused tracks that tie up a sound combination of Michael Jackson, Prince and The Talking Heads. Glover even deceptively sounds like MJ on some of his songs.
Penguin Prison has released a few EPs and a bunch of remix work, which is as stellar as his own material. He’s coming out with a full length album shortly. Check out some of his tracks on his Soundcloud page, which I’ve linked up below. And don’t leave without a listen to his remix of ‘Blue Jeans’ by Lana del Rey, the music world’s soon to be new indie temptress. It’s stunning.
