In the same vein as the 80′s classic by Michael Sembello, Moullinex has come together with modern sex music symbol Peaches to create a modern version of ‘Maniac’.
I don’t really know where to start when it comes to talking about this song. Hmmmm. I would say strap on your revealing onesie, get to a gym and show off how insane you can go infront of a webcam. This is the quintessential flash dance remake with a modern Nu Disco twist!
Last year GOMMA was approached to rework some songs from the legendary Casablanca Records catalogue. MOULLINEX, Telonius, Munk and The Phenomenal Handclap Band did four new interpretations of classic tracks by Donna Summer & Giorgio Moroder, Skatt Brothers, Stephanie Mills and from the Flashdance soundtrack!
For the project they needed a very special vocalist, who they believed had the right understanding of history, the perfect dirty approach and enough soul. They found her in the former Canadian, PEACHES.
In 2011, a handful of producers on German electro label Gomma were asked to reinvent four tracks from Casablanca Records’ renowned catalogue. They said yes, and a four-track covers EP, appropriately titled Casablanca Reworks, was born. For one track, a cover of Michael Sembello’s “Maniac” (you know, from Flashdance), Berlin-via-Lisbon remixer and producer Moullinex recruited some help from electro songstress and unstoppable showwoman Peaches, and the final product is as awesome as you could only hope and dream it would be
My favourite french house producer (who is actually Portugese) has only gone and put his magic touch on Michael Sembello’s classic “Maniac”. To make things better he’s teamed up with electroclash princess Peaches to bring us what’s so far the funkiest track of 2012. Analog funk bass, Miami vice synths, and what can only be described as disco xylophones make this an instant classic. I’m already reaching for my aztec pattern blazer and high-top nike’s.
