NILE DELTA

02 17 2011

Continuing on from my Das Moth/Cutters post, I would like to introduce Nile Delta aka Joel Dickson. Well, actually, I may have already blogged some Delta remixes (not origanals) up on Waves in the past – check here and here. He is also part of Voltage with Cutters Records boss/Cut Copy’s own Dan Whitford, which was previously blogged here.. Back in the day, Joel was also one half of Riot in Belgium…

Finally, after a long wait, Joel has just brought out his debut EP “Channel/All This” under his Nile Delta name on Cutters. Immediately, this release went to number one on the Juno Download charts so this release should not be overlooked. It features two originals with Chicken Lips and Tornado Wallace helping out on remix duties to complete the package. ‘Channel’, the first original/A-side on the release, is a playful synth-house rocker that really hits the spot. On the back, ‘All This’ features vocals from Cut Copy’s Ben Browning [God bless Geelong ;-) ], who normally plays bass in CC. It’s lush, happy and blissful. The driving bassline works brilliantly. Oh, and Ben provides a great touch to the track too!

You can purchase the 12″ from Phonica or buy digitally from Juno Download.

Oh and a quick reminder, there is still some Cutters parties coming up…

MELBOURNE – SATURDAY FEB 19th – THE ORDER OF MELBOURNE
w/Dan & Tim / Nile Delta, Das Moth, DJ Banana Nutloaf (Knightlife), Rohan Bell Towers (Bamboo Musik), Michael Cue it up (Noise In My Head, RRR).
**BUY TIX**

SYDNEY – FRIDAY FEB 25th – GOOD GOD
w/Dan & Tim, Nile Delta, Das Moth, Pelvis & more.
**BUY TIX**

Believe it or not, there is also another project Joel was part of back in the day with Cut Copy’s Tim Hooey titled Comets. The duo remixed bands like Datarock to New Young Pony Club and some of Australia’s cool bands like Lost Valentinos, Midnight Juggernauts and the now defunct Damn Arms. Their sound was great, and personally, it defined what I loved about Australian dance music at the time. The way I see it, the Cutters label and Joel, through his Nile Delta moniker, is in some sense continuing that same sound, but on a higher and more advanced level.

Having established themselves as firm favorites of Glasgow’s long-running club Optimo (Espacio), as well as successfully working up a sweat at Fabric and Disco Bloodbath, DEN HAAN (Matthew Aldworth & Andrew Gardiner) are back with the third instalment in their electrifying macho-disco ouvre. The Courier of Death releases “Heist”, the third single from DEN HAAN in late November. It is also the debut single from The Courier of Death, the new label run by DEN HAAN themselves. They have already released The Courier of Death – The Original Soundtrack (from the ultimate B-movie, originally released in 1984) and now adopt the same name for their label.

Press Release: Following the release of their debut album, Dystopia, Midnight Juggernauts shift the focus to album number two with the release of their new single ‘This New Technology’. An epic journey through time, space and the eternal afterlife, ‘This New Technology’ is packed with dark driving tom rhythms filtered through lush pop synth-scapes, while the vocals are more aggressive than they’ve ever been before. Produced by Midnight Juggernauts, the track was recorded at Melbourne’s Sing Sing Studios by Christopher Moore (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, TV on the Radio, Liars) and mixed by Andy Baldwin. Its release coincides with a national headline tour by Midnight Juggernauts across Australia, and appearances at the CMJ Music Festival in New York during October including a headline performance at the URB party.

This New Technology’ will be available through iTunes on 9th October along with inspired remixes by artists including Nile Delta (Australia), Emperor Machine (UK) and Weird Tapes (USA). Following the digital release the single will see a limited edition 7″ release on Acéphale Records (SALEM, Air France, Memory Tapes) and is available for pre-order.

/ / / / / / / / DAS GLOW / / / / / / / /
Part of the 2006 new wave of Institubes artists, along with Surkin and Bobmo. Das Glow produces serious electronic music, which tends to represents Institubes’ vision of minimal techno. His new release “Lite Brite Remixes” just dropped, out on Institubes featuring remixes from Strip Steve and Qebrus. I’ve supplied the b-side and I’ve also put up his great track that was out on Vulture Records titled “I Want to Wake Up With You”.

“In 1982 I was on holiday at Lago di Como – Italy. Its there where i met Beba – who was a local artist – working as a barkeeper. First time i saw him he was sitting on the shore of the lake singing on some chords on his guitar. I still remember the melody of that moment. it was Gold…

One thing let to another and he joined me to Ibiza to start working with me. I had a little bar close to Ibiza village where i was dj-ing and doing live percussions on live shows. Beba added vocals and guitar harmonies to this so we had a band. That is where it all started…”

Mindless Boogie is a great psychdisco edit label which recently celebrated their 20th release by giving it away for free, containing edits done by Villa of their favorite diva’s Anita Meyer, Agnetha Fältskog and Tina Turner.

Also, Villa recently mixed the latest Eskimo ‘Cosmic Balearic Beats Vol. 2′ compilation which you can purchase right here.

What a man… Serge is quite wise about everything Italo. He was in Radio Slave and has done a huge array or remixes/edits/etc.etc.. Has his own record label Arcobaleno and now just recently has teamed up with fellow producer Tom Neville – thus, Retro/Grade is born – expect a post on this very soon.

MIDNIGHT JUGGERNAUTS THIS NEW TECHNOLOGY REMIXES

I’ve been thoroughly impressed with what Acephale and the Midnight Juggernauts have done on the ‘This New Technology’ EP and the lead up to the album release. Not only have the Juggers built an intense hype for the recent single (past post) but they have backed it with mixes from some interesting and unique producers such as Nile Delta, Juan Maclean, Memory Tapes and the king of super long licks Emperor Machine.

The Nile Delta Remix in particular ooozes DFA goodness, with heavy riffs and rampant snare making it my favorite. If you want, head over to Acephale Records to pre-order a digital copy or snap up one of the 500 pressed 7′ which will never be repressed again!

Following the digital release of the single, a limited edition 7″ will be released by the wonderful Acéphale Records (home to Salem, Air France, Memory Tapes) which is available for pre-order here.

MIDNIGHT JUGGERNAUTS THIS NEW TECHNOLOGY ALBUM VERSION

09 21 2009

Following a lone journey from their humble beginnings in 2005 with the self-titled release, it seems The Midnight Juggernauts are finally delivering a headlining tour to coincide with the highly anticipated album release with a little help from Acephale Records (Salem, Air France, Memory Tapes).

The Juggers, even with absolute star-gaze-cosmic-tunes and sovereign support have been eclipsed for the past few years by other equally talented but more marketed acts. Having toured with Justice in 2007 and playing most if not every major Australian festival it just seems right that things start to shine on their faces.

On first listen ‘This New Technology’ is a busy and crowded track filled to the brim with light drumming, button beeps, anthem organ jam and adventurous vox. The guys haven’t deviated a whole heap from their roots but have modernized the sound to suit a present or future audience.

‘This New Technology’ will be the first single from the rejuvenated and recharged Aussies and will feature mixes from Nile Delta, Emperor Machine and Weird Tapes.
