Shades & Swick

05 11 2011

Fresh in is some more love from one of my favorite labels around; Top Billin. First up is Bright Shades, a Finnish production duo who sound like a revved up Breakbot with a dash of Sebastian Tellier’s “grown and sexy” vibe (you know what I mean). ”Girls Want More” is my pick off their new Sightseeing EP and I’d suggest it to anyone who’s in the market for some big, feel-good tunage.

Secondly, an insane remix of Swick‘s “Be Stupid” off the new Flick It Up EP. Myd basically took the original and murdered it. So there’s no longer an “Original Mix” on the release. RIP “Original Mix”. Joking, but seriously, it’s good. Check out Beatport for said original along with remixes from Will Bailey and Lucid.

LES GILLETTES – CARL LEWIS EP

05 01 2011

New material from the UK’s Les Gillettes who have come to the table with a new sound changing it up from topical summer time jams on earlier releases to new wave electro. The title track features some saucy snares over some familiar english bass-kicks and if guessed correctly the track also features a pretty cool vocal track ripped from some commentary and interviews before Carl Lewis won one of his many Olympic medals. The drop at 2 minutes is where its at.

Out on New Judas it also features some dope remixes from Boy 8-bit, Mvsevm, Myd and Screendeath. definitely buy this release its so damn fun.

Your Love

10 13 2010

I have been so impressed with the Aston Shuffle’s output recently – their production has progressively grown from stumbling ba-donk-a-donk bangers (ala their classic remix of Killer Applikation) to sultry pop-house with that bang0rised crunch they lovingly infuse throughout their original tracks.

Your Love, the first track from their upcoming debut album, was released on October 10th.. stream the whole, amazing jam in its entirety below:

THE ASTON SHUFFLE – YOUR LOVE (CLUB VERSION) by TheAstonShuffle

O’er there on Soundcloud you’ll also here some snippets of two remixes, one INCREDIBLE trippy joint from France youngsters Myd, another from Grum. Which is alright.

Your Love is out now. Stay tuned for news about the Shuffle’s debut album.

Scion A/V x Sound Pellegrino

07 28 2010

Scion A/V teams up with Sound Pellegrino, one of the hottest and most consistent dance music labels around, for a compilation of what only be described as some serious heaters.

Scion A/V presents: Sound Pellegrino – Straight From The Spring (zip file, direct link)

“Sound Pellegrino’s former mystery man Gucci Vump is back again with another inventive (and kind of creepy) track. “Shashtilism” updates Gucci Vump’s first single “Sha, Shtil!” with an even bigger klezmer influence and crazy ratatatatatatatatat drums.

Bambounou turns up the tempo with “Abodan,” a kicking combination of tribal percussion, laser pings and the whirls of a spaceship taking off back to the beginning of civilization.

Probably the mellow cut on this collection, Para One gets remixed by LA’s LOL Boys, bringing in spacious synth lines and understated vocal percussion.

Bart B More & Harvard Bass’ “Listen to This” hits hard from jump street with a pounding bassline and militaristic drums. From there things only get more commanding as the cross-continental duo of Bart B More and Harvard Bass piles on monumental build-ups and cliffhanger breakdowns.

Out One’s “Altamont” is a chill but pulsing track with a glitchy beat and dinner bell shine. Out One is an old friend of the Institubes crew, previously working with them as a mixer and a video director, but only started producing his own music in 2009. Welcome to our iTunes playlists!

Finnish house duo Renaissance Man’s Sound Pellegrino release from 2009 get a soulful remix from Paris’ dOP who offer a classic 4/4 beat, spoken word vocals, smooth keyboards and a hypnotic breakdown. It comes directly from outerspace(d out).

For this compilation, Momma’s Boy (an alter ego of Paris producer Mikix the Cat) brings “Bot Band Concerto.” The track sounds like it’s name would suggest – a futuro dancefloor smacker played by an orchestra of robots, blipping and blopping through the night.

On “Next Novel,” Myd & Sam Tiba manage to incorporate traces of house, electro, minimal, dubstep and Baltimore club into their track with impeccable European sophistication. We’re not sure what the sampled vocals are saying, but we’re pretty sure it’s not “Harry Potters,” like we originally thought.”

Femme En Fourrure – Dirty Blonde part II

07 15 2010

We got so many great remixes for Femme En Fourrure’s single “Dirty Blonde” that we decided to release it in two parts. This time we give you remixes from Marcus Price, French Fries & Manaré, Raziek, MYD, Lazaro Casanova. We also got a dub from MadKids and a brand new track from Femme En Fourrure. Their new track “Banana” takes them in a
new direction and we like where they take us!

Top Billin got a new member in their ever-growing family! Club Cheval aka Sam Tiba, Myd & Canblaster hail from France and make an awesome hybrid of club beats, dancehall, house & techno. Their new ep is already getting a lot of support from all the top players and and you can also find the track featured here, ‘Barbie Weed’ from Sam Tiba, on the new Crookers mix cd.

Here is were you can buy the release.

Horse Club

04 09 2010

I think it’s safe to say that Top Billin’s Club Cheval EP, a Canblaster/ Myd/ Sam Tiba collab, is one of the nuttiest releases to hit the dance market in some time. Along with the a strong dancehall influence, it’s pretty consistent with the usage of cooky sound effects, which is something I’ve been noticing in a bunch of other tunes this year as well (see also: Legobeat.) And I don’t mean “cooky” in a bad way, it’s completely entertaining and most likely something that would get a crowd off in any number of situations, especially in tandem with a grumbling bassline.

Having said that, I’d highly recommend checking out Canblaster’s “Chicken Run” if you’re in need of an afternoon pick-me-up. While you’re at it, snag an exclusive mix of theirs over at A Sound A Birthday and pick up the whole Club Cheval EP on Beatport or Juno.
