BLACKSTREET – NO DIGGITY (THE KID REMIX)

01 20 2012

I can never turn down a creative spin on a classic. My good buddy Kyle aka The KiD over @ Mad Decent just put out this bootleg remix of everyones favorite 90s anthem “No Diggity” all male R&B/Hip Hop group Blackstreet. Accompanied by an uptempo backbone and a DJ breakdown to the original verse, this version is a must for your party sets. I’ve also included his recent original tune sampling Gwen Stefani, and a cool edit of Michael Jackson’s ‘Baby Be Mine.’ Get your weekend groove started kids.

Michael Jackson’s hair turned into a roulette ball

12 13 2011

A man who was well known for having a strange latter part of his life has now been immortalised in an even more unusual way by a gambling company.

The king of dance and pop Michael Jackson has had some of his hair auctioned off at a charity function. The hair was originally collected at New York’s Carlyle Hotel and has been won by a gambling site called onlinegamblingpal.com for US $10,871.

The company have boldly announced in regards to the hair; “As its proud new owners, we have decided to convert Michael Jackson’s hair into a roulette ball – an appropriately unique way to immortalise a small part of a truly peerless entertainer”.

They continued by saying “The ball itself will be made to the highest professional standards, ensuring it will be eligible for use at any licensed casino’s roulette table. Indeed, considering Jackson dedicated his life to entertaining millions, the prospect of this very special ball captivating crowds at roulette tables seems like a fitting use for it.”

This has to be the most unusual form of flattery in regards to Michael’s legacy yet. We could only wonder what he would be thinking about this right now.

It would be fair to say Phil Collins' 'I'm Not Moving' has seen enough remixes. Recently it's been sampled by Trickski, who turned it into an impossibly slow-burner; Pitto went the other way, stretching a small vocal snippet into a filtered house banger. This is a more middle-of-the-road affair, like the Idjut Boys edit, Jay Todd's is a jaunty house jam. Thanks go to Sloth Boogie blog for the pointer:

Phil Collins - I’m Not Moving (Jay Todd Re-Edit) {wav file} [pelski highly recommends]

A similar take to Ooft's rework of MJ's 'Thriller', this is a gently funky houser:

Michael Jackson - Thriller (Mike Fisher Edit)

We've previously posted the dramatic Cousin Cole remix of Rolling In The Deep; and here's a cut from Pelski favourite Jozif. It's a muted, futuristic kind of funk, a plodding momentum with a the flicker of guitars and a crack of snares:

Adele - Rolling In The Deep (Jozif Edit)

Miguel Campbell - Baby I Got It (Edit Murphy Remix)

Mark E - Oranges (Jacques Renault Edit) {wav file}

This is the most cliché post ever, but it’s relevant and necessary.

A.SKILLZ + JACKSON 5

09 05 2011

A.SKILLZ needs no introduction. Let’s just say he is probably one of the best djs I’ve ever seen live. I’m talking top 3 here. Dood’s incredible. His technical skillz are amazing, but what really makes him stand out is the fact that he edits practically every track he plays. He keeps the bulk of them to himself, but once in a while he’ll let one loose.

Download the track from his facebook page (you gotta like it if you haven’t already). Give it some love over on The Hype Machine while you’re at it.

…and if you missed this, cop it immediately. Chances are unlikely, since it’s been downloaded over 22,000 times already.
