Pipedown – 31st March @ The Rhythm Factory

Our blogging brethren - and idioteque collaborators - Pipedown have another big line-up for the second ever outing at Pipedown @ Rhthym Factory, on Wednesday 31st March. It's a showcase of KEYSOUND RECORDINGS (home to some of 2010's biggest garage/funky/dubstep players Starkey, DVA, Grievous Angel, Geeneus, Sully and more).

Label heads DUSK & BLACKDOWN are headlining - legends in their own right, best known for their Rinse FM show and stellar debut album. Next up, LHF are a collective of producers including Amen Ra, Double Helix, Low Density Matter, Octaviour, No Fixed Abode, Escobar, Solar Man and mor; expect otherworldly garage/dubstep sounds. Lastly is KOWTON bringing to quote Pipedown 'the rhythmical energy and swung grid of garage with the depth of house music and techno'. Stasis, released on Keysound last year, received received attention from Mary Anne Hobbs, Kode9, Ben UFO and more.

And LHF have knocked up a promo mix in advance. Essentially the selection is a gentle marriage of dubstep, garage and lo-fi sentiment. It's full of delightful contradictions: erratic and yet soothing; downbeat yet uplifting. And, ultimately, weird and wonderful. The mix essentially goes for something sublime, stringing together jagged bursts of bass and sporadic, stripped back injections of jungle. It's woozy tribal elements, that clang, echoe and shimmer, at times give it an ethereal feel. Captivating:
