Single-handedly creating one of the biggest discrepancies between original and cover since, well, her own band’s reinterpretation of Jeremih’s “Birthday Sex,” Elin Kastlander of Swedish electro-pop duo jj reimagined The Outfield’s 1985 arena rock hit “Your Love” into a yearning, acoustic-guitar-driven slow jam. And she did it all in a Finnish sauna, while wearing eye makeup to rival Ke$ha herself, for Finnish arts collective We Are Home’s “Monsters of Pop” series. Kastlander is a master of pop indeed, always managing to make samples and covers indubitably her own. “Your Love” is no exception. Check it out.

Swedish dream pop constructionists jj posted a new song to their blog yesterday called “You Don’t Know How Much It Would Hurt Me If You Said You Were In Love With Me.” The track shares a lot more in common with a quieter, more lo-fi version of How To Dress Well than anything the duo have put it out before. There’s a complete absence of the the hip hop and r&b production they usually sample (Lil Wayne, anyone?) and a lack of any dreamy, sweeping instrumental accompaniment whatsoever.
