DOWNLOAD: Wild Nothing – “Golden Haze”

We are rather infatuated with Wild Nothing (real name, Jack Tatum) at the moment. As if releasing a wonderfully wistful and nostalgic debut album wasn’t enough, Wild Nothing is preparing to drop a new EP sometime this Fall, aptly titled Golden Haze. The EP’s title track is as hazy and, er, golden as you’d expect. Like most Wild Nothing tracks, within the song’s first few seconds, Tatum’s influences are candidly placed on display. The Cure instantly comes to my mind with “Golden Haze,” specifically. But this inescapable sense of déjà vu doesn’t last very long; before you know it, you’ve consumed yourself in yet another shoegaze dreamscape thought up by Wild Nothing. (Continue Reading)

“Most Kingz” is a sort-of brand new track from Jay-Z and Coldplay front man Chris Martin. According to 2Dopeboyz, the vocals for “Most Kingz” were originally recorded during the Kingdom Come sessions, but a beat was never found for the track. Thus, the vocals were used on the Grammy Family freestyle on Hot97 w/ Funk Flex in 2006 as well as Coldplay’s “Lost” (Remix). Now, Green Lantern has provided “Most Kingz” with a beat and included it in his latest mixtape. More importantly, we have a basically new, free Jay-Z track for you to listen to and download:

PMA x Brainbheats: Mixcloud’s Celebration of Curation

We asked our multi-talented homie, Brainbheats (producer/pianist/composer/member of our favorite new band The Pass) to put together a killer mix for Mixcloud’s first birthday. Here is what he had to say about his mix: “The approach I took was half driving mix tape, half DJ set. I feel like driving music and a good DJ set have many of the same qualities. I picked music that you could just as easily dance to or listen to, and varied enough to keep things interesting from song to song. The songs that I picked also fall into that category of songs I want everyone else to hear. Kanye West unleashed this “Monster” on his blog over the weekend as part of G.O.O.D. Fridays and I’m pretty sure a line has been crossed somewhere. Forget not knowing that this much epic could ever exist in one track — this much epic shouldn’t exist in one track, it just makes everything else sound like a bag of crap. And you can take that to the bank In fact, take Nicki Minaj with you; she murdered the track and delivered hands-down the best verse of her short career. Hear and download “Monster” below:

According to Kanye, “Monster” is off an upcoming five-track “album” he and Jay-Z are “bout to drop” called Watch The Throne. Let’s skip the surprise and shock and questions about the fifth full-length LP we’ve been expecting from Kanye and just go along with it, shall we?

PS: What did he do to Bon Iver/Justin Vernon’s voice? It sort of sounds like Kid Cudi or Dwele in some parts. I was so ready for some Skinny Loving…
