Jackmode vs Pelski Presents, London Bridge: 6th November

10 21 2010

We’re back on 6th November with a new, larger venue, equipped with, not one, but two Funktion1 soundsystems at a temporary venue under London Bridge, as part of Counter Culture. And this time we’ve teamed up with agency-of-the-moment Jackmode. Anyone who’s been following this blog would probably agree that this is an absolutely stonking lineup. The line-up reads like a Who’s Who of fun, funky and tribal-infused tech-house, showcasing artists hailing from some of the most influential labels in the game: Made To Play, Jackmode, Dirtybird, Turbo and Deadfish.
Room 1: Jackmode
Christian Martin (Turbo / Dirtybird)
Zombie Disco Squad (Made To Play)
Solo (Deadfish)

Room 2: Pelski Presents
Round Table Knights (Made To Play / Dirtybird)
Midland (Aus / Phonica)
Mr Solid Gold & Park Ranger (Trouble Vision)
Charles Darkly (Pelski)
Counter Culture
7-9 Crucifix Lane
London, United Kingdom
Tube Station: London Bridge

Grab your tickets while they last:

ROOM 1: JACKMODE

CHRISTIAN MARTIN

Flying in from California, Christian Martin will be headlining Room 1, bringing to the decks his world-renowned brand of crunky tech-house and 808-miami-bass. With some huge releases over the years that include a classic collab with Von Stroke, ‘Groundhog Day’, and the quirky 2009 smash ‘Dum’, Christian Martin’s productions are never short of surprises, nor dancefloor clout.

ZOMBIE DISCO SQUAD

ZDS made the move from blog darlings to serious body movers in 2008 and recently released on Man Recording, Dirtybird and Jesse Rose’s Made To Play. Bumpy, stripped-back tribal beats are the name of the game for ZDS. Hailing from a hip-hop background, ZDS know how to get a crowd going: expect conga-grooves, 808 kicks and claps, and funky samples aplenty.

SOLO

Solo's flair for inventive house beats is second to none, despite only starting producing in the last two years. The young Italian, with partner in crime Mowgli, runs the Deadfish imprint, home to the twitchier side of stripped down, dubby house beats, and of course some of our favourite artists (Camel, Mowgli, Tom Flynn, Round Table Knights).

ROOM 2: PELSKI PRESENTS

ROUND TABLE KNIGHTS

It’s our utmost pleasure to present RTK as headliners of the Pelski room, hailing all the way from Switzerland. Last year they reinvented their sound with the exotic slice of bumpy microhouse ‘Belly Dance’ (Deadfish). This year – the year that saw them grab widespread acclaim - RTK released the ingenious Caribbean-flavoured monster 'Calypso', it’s steel drum melody and subby kicks perfectly built for a big system, shortly followed by the drunken, gypsy-house debauchery of ‘Cut To The Top’. As if that wasn’t enough, they’re now winning over more fans with their remix of summer anthem ‘Coma Cat’. Jesse Rose praised them as playing the best house sets of 2009 – so why not come along and find out what all the fuss is about…?

MIDLAND

Midland's been receiving unparalleled press since his arrival on the scene half a year ago. Five remixes and two original releases later and Midland’s already being dubbed as newcomer of the year. His collab with Ramadanman borrowed from both the classic house and garage cannons to provide a warm, percussive slab of floor-friendly deepness. His ‘Play The Game’ EP further cemented his reputation for versatility: the title track neatly coupled lightly snapping breakbeats with a fragmented croon of soul; the flip, ‘Heads Down’, goes for a shuffling techy progression and an arpeggiated vocal.

MR SOLID GOLD & PARK RANGER

The Trouble Vision part-starters will be doing their usual damage on the dancefloor, spinning anything from sharp techno cuts to deep nu-disco bombs. Be sure to download Park Ranger’s recent storming set at Pelski Presents here.

Park Ranger - Live Pelski Mix [pelski highly recommends]

Keep posted for an exlusive mix from RTK, and an mp3 and interview from Midland.

The Agenda – A Sharkslayer Remix

09 02 2010

what do you get when you mix a rugged reggae voice with an up tempo house track? A sharkslayer remix seems to be the result. with prominent use of instruments such as the violin and some cool distortions this makes for a fun and easy ‘riddim’.

Nike Sportswear x The Fader: Pitch Perfect

06 03 2010

Nike Sportswear and our friends over at The Fader got together for the Pitch Perfect project where they’ll be giving away mixes from each continent (well, except Antarctica). Yesterday saw the first mixtape in the series, it came from Maga Bo and focused on South America. Today we get Sindens Europe mix which features our very own Jamtech Foundation with the smashing Zombie Disco Squad remix of their “Too Fast” track.

“There are 47 countries in Europe—almost as many individual nations as there are states in the United States. It’s an imaginary umbrella covering a disparate continent. What’s the same about Galicia and Amsterdam? Prague and Oslo? Europe has mountain ranges and crazy beaches, consistent sun and perpetual fog. And while it may have a long entangled history, a plethora of exports, specialties and pastimes, what it is now known for is a ravenous appetite for dance music. Every corner of Europe has its own breed of bass, its specific sliver of drum love—there is hardly a nook without its own signature beat. For our Pitch Perfect Europe mixtape, British selector and producer Sinden takes a survey of what’s newest and greatest, with a slant on Europe’s beloved house music. It may only represent a fraction of the continent’s offerings, but wherever you live, we promise it sounds extra fresh.”

Sinden – Fact Mix

04 01 2010

Lots of mixes here on Discobelle at the moment but when they’re all top quality it’s hard to refrain from posting. Sinden just dropped an outstanding mix for Fact Magazine, some major tunes in there (including the Julio Bashmore remix from our very own Jamtech Foundation release). Sinden will also be launching his own label – Grizzly – this month and by the looks of the tracks featured in this mix the label will surely bring some noise.

Bring In The Tune

03 28 2010

Before I even knew what a music blog was, I was checking out Discobelle. To this day they still remain one of the best resources for great music and information concerning great music. However, 2010 marked a huge milestone for the Discobelle crew, besides being ace bloggers they decided to start a record label.

Now they are on there second release and it’s a huge one. From Jamtech Foundation comes “Too Fast”, a nice blend of tech house and dance hall sounds. Not a copy of Major Lazer at all, it’s actually an entirely different approach. Just thumping kick drums and a huge sub bass, it’s a monster of tune. It’s also accompanied with some equally monstrous remixes from Julio Bashmore, Zombie Disco Squad, Camel, and Top Billin. You can (and should!) purchase it from Beatport now.
