TRICK OF THE LIGHT.

10 26 2009
Wolf Gang first made waves with their brilliant Pieces of You 7" (of which we still have a few final copies remaining in the Neon Gold Shop) last June, and now they're stepping out with an immense follow up on newly-minted Manchester imprint Hit Club next month. "The King and All of His Men" was the first track we ever heard out of the Wolf Gang camp and it remains one of the very best, with London up-and-comer Blue May turning in an top class production job that manages retain the rough charm of "Pieces of You" while simultaneously elevating their sound to new levels of pop perfection. With May at the helm of Wolf Gang's forthcoming debut album and a seemingly endless repertoire of choice tunes to draw from, you can rest assured that this is an act that's going to go very, very far in 2010. Exclusive first listen below.

NEON GOLD UPCOMING PT. IV

07 27 2009
Your Twenties brilliant new single "Billionaires" drops on Neon Gold today (purchase here and here) and to celebrate we've teamed up with London's finest indie club night White Heat to launch the single next week at Madame Jojo's (advance tix here). The main support will be Clock Opera, who amazed us so much last week opening our party at Notting Hill Arts Club that we just had to have them back for one more go under the Neon Gold lights, and opening will be Sunderland newcomers Frankie & The Heartstrings. We've already breathlessly extolled the virtues of Your Twenties and Clock Opera, but the Heartstrings are new to these pages. Bros with The Futureheads and looked after by the lovely dudes of Hit Club, the fivesome are purveyors of some of the finest retropop sounds in Britain at the moment and this will be their hotly anticipated London debut. Enjoy "Fragile" below, alongside more familiar fare from Your Twenties and Clock Opera.

WHAT AM I TODAY.

Here are the facts: Egyptian Hip Hop are high school kids from Manchester with the best band name ever and a knack for melody far beyond their years. They made their London live debut last month at our Neon Gold party at Catch and while it's still obviously very early days, these kids show an amazing amount of promise for the years to come. "Rad Pitt" is their lo-fi anthem, coming on like a shoutier version of The Cure, all cascading guitar rhythms and adolescent existentialism. They're churning out top notch demos left and right and being cared for by the lovely gentlemen of Hit Club (who are hosting some of those demos here), so you can and should expect big things from this lot.
