YUKSEK has won my heart and ears many times. Released on ULTRA MUSIC, his latest long player is no different. At times, Living on the Edge of Dreams is an etheral dream and at others a wash of melodic distortion and stomping kicks.
We have a video, a couple previews from the album and pre-released singles. Oh there’s also a free download to boot.
That Lana Del Rey songs are quite tricky to remix doesn’t stop everyone from trying. A slew of mixes for her new single “Born To Die” came gatecrashing at once the other day, and I waded through the good and not-so-good to cherry pick a select few. What I like is that every remix from this package tries a different style. DJ Kris De Angelis‘ hard-edged club take is probably the most straightforward of the bunch. Gucci Vump‘s version utilizes the strings and vocal loops with some nice drumwork – it’s all about the 1:06 moment for me. Leo Zero went for an excessive balearic vibe, while Hackman (aka Jack Steadman of Bombay Bicycle Club) opted for a blog-baiting treatment with pitch shifts and those chunky house piano chords that are so in right now.

Also available are reworks from Gemini, Lil Silva, Two Armadillos, Marcus Intalex, and we haven’t even heard the mixes from Damon Albarn, Clams Casino, and Woodkid & The Shoes yet. The latter’s preview is up on Amazon and it already sounds potentially amazing.
Since this madness is not likely to end anytime soon, let’s push it further! What sort of novelty genre remix do you want to hear from her? Hmm… I’d love for Quiet Village to get back and give her a luxurious exotica massage. A full-on lounge or David Lynchian one could work, and a trip-hop take can be wonderful if done right. You’ll never know, since my favorite mix of “Video Games” is an actually awesome drum-n-bass mix by Jakwob & Etherwood.
“Born To Die” is also currently iTunes US’ Free Single of the Week. She’s literally inescapable.
On a Sunday night, in a beach town not so far away from you, I cracked open a Pacifico and began to ponder what I would do as the elusive evening drew closer and city lights began to flicker on. I decided to soul-search and ate a few silver-striped mushrooms out of an old embroidered Chinese box I had hidden beneath the dock. As I walked along the beach, the sand softly tickled my toes and the waves crashed in a perfect symphony. Just then, Poseidon’s froth had washed something hard up onto my foot. It was a glistening whiskey bottle; Jameson’s own to be exact. I opened it up, expecting a rich carmel liquid to engulf my soul and warm it from the inside out. However, out fell a flash drive where the words “Gooch-Tape #1″ were engraved. It was a sign; a sign that good things were coming. A sign that the warmth and sun-kissed poolside jams of summer would flow into the colorful world autumn had to offer. Warm your soul and paint your walls gold!

Ahead of Yuksek's new album, the Gucci Vump boys have coined the remix duty. This time their casual sway of house is interspersed by the rattle of a UK Funky rhythm, only to be interrupted by Yuksek's vocal about being 'On A Train' - (Check out the Yuksek's official video here, where you can enjoy an interstellar train journey with the man himself. I would certainly be more compelled to trust in British Rail, if we all had tickets for Yuksek's Skyline Express).
The Gucci Vump boys (Brodinski and Guillaume from The Shoes) have added a staple atmospheric 80's esque filter effect to the vocal, which is nicely carried by a slightly comercial electro dubb bass line.
Frag Maddin has physically gripped the all consuming bloggersphere by the reigns, handing us his blend of special treatment house music on a regular and healthy basis. Once again he's back with another cracking hand out - and this time it's a three track mpfree e.p called 'Hats & Drive'. So far I'm really sold on 'Sternbrücke', which manages to encapsulate a warm TEED esque bass line, only to jump knee deep into some chunky rave stabs.
I just grabbed this one from Feel My Bicep today, and I can't stop playing it. I'm happy to reiterate the strong words of the Bicep that this is going to be a big summer tune. It speaks in volumes, conjuring up your glory days on the disco floor, with one of the meatiest snare hits I've heard in a while. Brought from down under, the south of the equator Future Classic crew have already smashed over 5,000 plays on soundcloud. Be sure to press play too.
Today, 4/20, is considered by many to be their favorite national holiday. It’s such a revered holiday that it doesn’t even need a name. It’s simply referred to as 4/20. And what better way to honor this special day than with a song craftsman whose name means “high” in Turkish: Yuksek.
As you may have already read here, Yuksek’s 2011 is about to go OFF. Along with teaming up with The Magician for the super duo known as Peter & The Magician, Yuksek will also be releasing his “On A Train” EP complete with 3 brand new tracks + remixes by The Magician & Gucci Vump (Gucci Vump = The Shoes + Brodinski). WOW.
