To March
02 23 2010
Here are a few jams to liven up your hump-day. March is just around the corner, time to put away the hearts, and pick up the clovers. Struck out on valentine’s? Mend that broken heart with a little music care of your old pal Bonnaventure:
If you know anything about Icelandic culture, you’ll easily know that it can do NO WRONG! Björk, mandatory daytime running lights, elves, the rival team from the sequel to “Mighty Ducks”. Shall we add Nista/AXXE to that list? It’s too bad that teams in the Olympics can’t form multi-national teams anymore, because the Canada/Iceland duo of AXXE would sweep the podium at the Disco Olympics.

AXXE – S.A.T.U.R.D.A.Y (Neon Workout Remix)
AXXE – Hard Candy (Worship Remix)
Why not share this track by fellow Montreal wonderkind CFCF?. This masked hooligan and STILLEPOST denizen remixed KINGDOM for everyone to enjoy. I saw Kingdom DJ for MALUCA and it was some type of wild. Let’s hear it for CFCF! The whole this is dropping as a 10″ DOUBLE A SIDE It’s limited and stamped with FOIL, GO GET IT!
Kingdom – Mindreader Ft. Shyvonne (CFCF Remix)

And why not dip in to the old inbox for a few “March Madness” cuts?

I hope that helped. If not, I will try and supply another dose of fun sooner than later for you.
Bowie Ball – December 5, 2009 – le poisson rouge
11 23 2009
Did you know that David Bowie is the Beast’s favorite? It shouldn’t be that hard to gather, what with my love of glam rock, funky riffs, sequined apparel, and boys in makeup. That, in a rad little nutshell, is a good time. But what promises to be an even better time, is NYC’s annual Bowie Ball.

As much as I love my Thin White Duke, in all of my years residing in this wonderful city, I’d never ventured out to this lavishly rad affair. Chalk it up to ignorance, or maybe previous engagements. This year, however, the plan is to not miss the festivities. And so you don’t miss it either, here are the details.

10pm – 4am
Live performances by: Reni Lane, Kevin Aviance, Bridget Everett, Michael Cavadias, Amy Douglas, Our Lady J, The Kiki Twins, Michael Formika Jones and Kenan Duffy

Bowie: A Biography (by Marc Spitz) Due Out October 27
09 22 2009
I make no bones about my torrid love affair with all things surrounding David Bowie. And now with a deeply intropsective look into the man behind the music’s life, I have even more reason to celebrate the eccentric genius that he is.

Bowie takes an in-depth look at the culture of postwar England in which David Jones grew up, the mod and hippie scenes of swinging London in the sixties, the sex and drug-fueled glitter scene of the early seventies when Bowie’s alter-ego Ziggy Stardust was born, his rise to global stardom in the eighties and his subsequent status as an elder statesman of alternative culture.
Biographer Marc Spitz puts each incarnation of Bowie into the context of its era, creating a cultural time line that is intriguing both for its historical significance as well as for its delineation of this rock ’n’ roll legend, the first musician to evolve a coherent vision after the death of the sixties dream.

Introducing: Atlantic Connection
07 31 2009
Atlantic Connection is an LA-based producer who also runs the indie label group Westbay Music Group, which focuses on urban electrosoul.

AC has been producing a few particularly fresh new artists and has released 2 promo singles to set the buzz ablaze! The tracks have a ghettoglam feel that will easily appease those looking for a club hopper while still maintaining a laidback “let’s roll the top down and go cruising” vibe.
Suggested listening is the beat heavy, synth laden and lyrically fiendish Big Shot, which features Julz and Tetris, 2 other LA cats. Or you can download the full promo single for Selfish, which features Jeff Rhodes, and Whisper, here and here respectively.
