It’s the day before Thanksgiving and things are looking great as we enter into the holiday season. I have a new trailer for Porter Robinson’s mini-documentary, info on Magnetic Man’s next album, Aus music invading Fabric, M83 on Fallon, and the Mixmag drugs survey, all conveniently packed into today’s GDD™ Morning Update. Please enjoy after the jump.

Porter Robinson’s Mini-Documentary Trailer

Filmed over the course of Tiësto’s mammoth College Invasion tour through multiple cities and some insane impromptu after parties, Porter Robinson demonstrates exactly why he is one of the hottest names in electronic music. Swamped and chased by fans, partying with the likes of Diplo and Dada Life and wowing crowds throughout the country – there is no better way to experience life on the road with one of dance music’s youngest stars.

Having been handpicked by Tiësto himself off the back of his enormous debut EP ‘Spitfire’ on Skrillex’s OWSLA label, 19 year-old Porter packed his bags and hit the road for a month, wowing crowds as he went. A month and a half on, and the closing stages of the epic tour have been compiled into a stunning 10-minute documentary!

Filmed as the tour drew to a close in San Diego, Davis, Fresno, Avila Beach, Santa Barbara and LA – get ready to witness footage of the electronic phenomenon that is Porter Robinson!

The full documentary will be unveiled on Wednesday 30th November, but for now, sit back and get ready for a complete audio-visual teaser treat, backed by his server crashing EP ‘Spitfire’.

New Magnetic Man Album Early Next Year

Benga has revealed on his Facebook that we can expect a new Magnetic Man album early next year.

This will, no doubt, come as welcome news to fans who caught the dub-step pioneers for one of their much-admired Parklife performances earlier this year. This is also good news for Summafieldayze, Summadayze and Field Day attendees, who might get treated to some of the new material when Skream and Benga head our way this summer for their festival tour.

Benga also told fans he’s working on his own solo album, and that he “can’t wait to give a drop date”.

So what can expect from the new material? Answering questions from his fans on Facebook, Benga gave a few things away. When asked where he sees his sound going in the next few years, Benga responded “I don’t know, things are changing so fast at the moment, it’ll still be my original twist to things, I could never leave that behind”. As for if he’ll ever start producing songs like his early material again, the Croydon native answered “Maybe one day! It’s all about experimenting”.

Questions Benga chose not to answer included “What is the purpose of life?” “Can you smoke with me..?” and “Can you read minds?” We can only wonder.

Aus Music Take Over Fabric

Will Saul’s Aus Music label takes over room 2 at Fabric this weekend.

Saturday November 26 will see the man himself step up alongside Joy Orbison, George Fitzgerald, Lee Jones and Vakula for an evening of sounds that will see the deep house and techno imprint make its mark on the London venue.

Aus Music has come to the fore as the place to go for deep underground dance sounds. Recent releases by Midland, SCB and all of the producers playing on Saturday have made it one of the labels to watch during 2011.

Also playing across the stages at Fabric will be Craig Richards, Terry Francis and Lee Burridge. For all information and tickets, click here.

M83′s ‘Midnight City’ on ‘Fallon’

Network television got a heady rush of electronic pop on Monday night, as M83 performed on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon (after the Roots welcomed Michele Bachmann to the sounds of Fishbone’s “Lyin’ Ass Bitch,” that is). Anthony Gonzalez and his band gave wee-hours watchers a tour of “Midnight City,” a highlight from the French keyboard-sorcerer’s latest, Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming. (Those unfamiliar might’ve recognized the song’s bird-like synth call from a recent Victoria Secret TV commercial). At the song’s climactic moment, a bombastic saxophone solo continued the instrument’s long, smooth return — from last year’s Deerhunter record (“Next year everyone’s gonna have a saxophone on their record because saxophones are just cool,” Bradford Cox said at the time) to Lady Gaga’s “The Edge of Glory” to Foster the People’s bizarre Kenny G cosign. “That’s how you do it,” host Jimmy Fallon said afterward, as if addressing all the other kids with their unnecessary horn-blowing. The sax enters at 3:35.

Mixmag’s Drugs Survey

Mixmag Drugs Survey 2012 is now live. This year we are working for the first time in partnership with The Guardian to produce the biggest – and first truly global – survey of drug use amongst young people and clubbers ever conducted. It takes about 10-20 minutes to fill in, is completely anonymous and by being part of it, you could help change the world.

That’s because the Mixmag survey is where the world goes to find out real peoples’ attitudes to and experience of drugs, and the medical, social and law enforcement consequences of drug use. The survey has been used by doctors, academics, and even governments across the planet to understand drug trends, to influence policy and to inform their decisions.

The analysis is performed by a team of doctors and scientists, using the highest professional research standards, to get to the real truth about drugs all around the world.

The Mixmag Drugs Survey, in partnership with The Guardian, is now live at www.globaldrugsurvey.com/mixmag2012.

Take a look at last year’s results… and find out what clubland is really on.

LDN This Friday, Fabric is playing host to yet another monster lineup. BoysNoize Records will be taking over Room 1, with sets from Housemeister, Djedjotronic, Shadow Dancer, and Mr. Alex Ridha himself. Meanwhile, Room 2 will see Sound Pellegrino Thermal Team topping the Kill ‘Em All bill, joined by Filthy Dukes and Jokers of The Scene, to name a few.

Yesterday we caught up with Al from Shadow Dancer to talk about MegaDrives, production, and dancing dirty. For the interview, tunes, and listing info, read on after the jump…

GDD™: In line with interview tradition – what do you guys drink?

SD: On the day of a gig, it’s coffee, water, beer, water. Consumed in that order.

GDD™: Did you coin the name Shadow Dancer after the Shinobi game? and if so, have you ever completed it?

SD: Not exactly, but near enough. I did complete it on the MegaDrive, but not in the arcade – I always ran out of 10 pees. I was always good at the Shinobi games, which is odd because I’m rubbish at playing videogames. I guess I’m just part ninja!

GDD™: Which one of you took to electronic music first? and then how long was it before you and Paul started making music together?

SD: I think we were both into it at around the same time: when I was about seven, and Paul was eight. We started making music together a few years after that, when I was nine. I’d say I was into club music first, I used to be really into clubbing as a teenager.

GDD™: What influenced your sound growing up in Manchester?

SD: Haha, rumbled! We actually grew up in Wales. I’d say the main influence was that there was f••k all to do, and we had no money. You had to make your own entertainment in those days, which we did with a £100 Casio SK-1 synthesizer, and a tape recorder. We were mainly influenced by Jean-Michel Jarre, being honest. Later on, when we started making music with a sequencer, I’d say Warp Records were the main influence.

GDD™: You’re the only Brits on BNR – how did that come about?

SD: You’d have to ask Alex that! We don’t play in Britain very often, which may answer that question, albeit a bit cryptically!

GDD™: Hearing you and Paul play out a number of times, I’m always intrigued to know who does what. Are you 50-50 on the production and equal on the performing, or is one of you more of a studio wizard?

SD: Paul is the studio wizard. I’m making some beats, basslines and tunes in my flat and giving the parts to Paul digitally, but I only started doing this again in 2011 after a lengthy break from composition. So nothing that’s been released yet.

GDD™: In the studio are you backing VSTs or Hardware?

SD: Hardware, I can’t use VSTs and I only have three Korg Electribes. I need to touch buttons and fiddle with knobs.

GDD™: So which synth couldn’t you live without?

SD: The Korg EA-1.

GDD™: You’ve had recent releases with your ‘Boss Rush’ double A-side on BNR Trax, and then the enormous ‘Murder Room’ EP on BoysNoize Records. Did you have to approach the two differently, and were you gunning for a different sound on the BNR Trax release?

SD: Well, we debuted a mixture of tracks from both in our SW4 live set last summer, and at the time I didn’t know what was going to be released and on what, but my memory is not what it was.

GDD™: So who determined where each of the EPs were to be released?

SD: I’d say Alex ultimately, but I certainly remember him consulting with Paul, and there was talk of using an alter-ego for BNR Trax for a while.

GDD™: We really enjoyed ‘Golden Traxe’ in 2009, are there plans for a follow up full-length in the near future?

SD: Based on the amount of new tracks we’re working on, definitely not in the near future. We are both of the opinion that you shouldn’t put any old crap out, and we would only release a follow-up if we thought we had enough tracks that were good. We do have some old tracks we recorded between 1997 and 2002 that we are hoping will get released as a compilation though. One of the tracks from this era was on the last EP, a track called ‘Lo-Fighters’.

GDD™: What does the rest of 2011 have in store for Shadow Dancer?

SD: We’re really excited about playing festivals in the summer. We’ve taken a break from the live sets this year – in fact, Fabric in January was the last time we did one, but we’re going to play live at some of the festivals.

GDD™: And finally, we have to ask you this for obvious reasons: when you’re in a club and not on DJing duties, do you dance dirty?

SD: I jiggle about enthusiastically, but I’m always lurking at the back where noone can see me.

GDD™: Ha ha, fair enough! Thanks for taking the time Al, looking forward to catching you guys at Fabric on Friday.
