Art Nouveau

08 15 2010

A bit of a slow sunday here at the Discobelle office but we we’re glad to find this gem courtesy of French duo Art Nouveau in our inbox. They’re about to drop their debut EP this fall on Copenhagen based label Demento Mori and in the meantime here’s two absolutely stunning tracks for us to enjoy.

“The two Reims-based producers Andrea Starosse and Julien Salman started working together under their moniker Art Nouveau after running into each other in a clubnight in – ironically enough – Paris. They create a rich and colourful sound that’s inspired by different forms of house music but they also draw a lot inspiration from world music, which is clearly audible in their universal sound. In the past they have sent out demos to the Australian duo Yolanda Be Cool who picked up their single “Miracle” to get a release on their label Sweat It Out! and meanwhile they’ve been working together with Get Flavor Records too. Being playlisted by the Sound Pellegrino Thermal Team, having steady support from Brodinski and a couple of upcoming releases in sight, the future for these two young French producers looks bright.”

Femme En Fourrure

07 16 2010

Taking influences from the minimalism of Detroit techno and the dancefloor grooves of early house music and disco, Femme En Fourrure make music that is explicitly uncompromising. topped with candid sultry lyrics, these tracks induce a force to be reckoned with.

World class DJ’s such as Brodinski, Sinden, Stretch Armstrong and Edu K are just a few examples of those who have played and embraced the sounds of Femme En Fourrure. My personal favourite remix of this culturally diversified track is Drop the Lime’s which i strongly suggest you check out.

for now I will share with you a track from Femme En Fourrure EP, to check the rest of their EP please click here

screwface

03 27 2010

TOM PIPER & DANIEL FARLEY usually deliver massive club fire but they have pulled their sound way back here and delivered this understated, dirty but clean?, urbanesque tech record that fits right in with the sound that new label Bakehaus will be offering.. Usually Argentinean accordions, New York crack talk, cats purring and some wacked out bongos with white noise wouldn’t work well together but these young men have worked it proper and delivered the goods. Remixes come courtesy of RIVA STARR, which we are sure needs no introduction to you, SCREWFACE JOHNSON & DANNY T who delivers a great flipside on the groove.

all round this song has had a great reaction from some big producers including Edu K. i would categories this track in the same genre of dance music as Yolanda be cool’s “we speak no americano”. very easy happy listening

Tom Piper/Daniel Farley/Screwface Johnson – Airbag (Screwface Johnson Remix) ysi 320

just a fucking cool song to set a unique vibe to the night with. mix it in with Ian Oliver’s “bucovina” and you are in freaking South America.

ps. what a name. Screwface johnson. Love It!!
