NEW VIDEO: Oh Land – White Nights

08 09 2011

The music video for Oh Land’s “White Nights” has finally arrived, and it is so worth the wait. When I heard the directing collective CANADA was at the helm, and that she had a 5-day shoot in Barcelona, I expected a collage of trippy and stunningly-shot visuals. Well, it’s safe to say the end product is nothing short of astonishing. The Danish songstress took us through her fantastical world of glittery hands, headdresses, and impractical animal-head shoes! Apparently, her midsummer daydream consists of surreal scenarios involving lagoon jumping, forest frolicking, horse riding, and lots of dancing (her ballet dancer background certainly helps). I especially like the Kylie-esque bit when she does the robot. For me, the video feels like a proper old-school MTV music video, fast-paced, fun, refreshing, and delightfully bonkers. This is undoubtedly one of the best pop videos I’ve seen this year. I’m glad her label believes in her enough to commission this.

Her self-titled album is still one of 2011′s highlights for me. It’s a carousel of enchanting, whimsical magic-pop that you should not miss out on. To celebrate the video premiere, 2 free remixes of “White Nights” by Twin Shadow and Max Tundra are yours to keep after the jump.

Covercentric: Fallulah Takes On The Yeah Yeah Yeahs

07 10 2011
Danish songstress Fallulah stopped by Dermot O’Leary’s show on BBC Radio 2 yesterday to perform a live session, which included a special folky rendition of Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ “Gold Lion”. I never thought about how the song would sound like with banjos and accordions, but she and the band did a splendid job covering it! [...]

REMIXED: Agnes Obel – Riverside (Lulu Rouge Remix)

04 28 2011
Danish songstress Agnes Obel has been on my radar for her beautiful piano-laden music, which comes highly recommended if you like Emiliana Torrini or Sarah Blasko. But tonight, I’d like to share a new remix for her single “Riverside”. Lulu Rouge amplified the quiet bleakness of the original with his throbbing, dark spin. It’s an [...]

Trentemøller – Silver Surfer, Ghost Rider Go!!! (new single and remixes!)

11 03 2010

When it comes to Trentemøller, my writings, rantings and ravings are that one horse I like to beat into the ground. And while no, I do not condone animal cruelty, yes my incessant pleas of insistence in making you listen to his latest album, Into the Great Wide Yonder, would more than likely fell a foal or two. With a new single on the horizon, it's time to make a trip to glue factory again. Are you picking up on all these metaphors and puns? It's just...gosh...that's how much I dig this dude and his tunes.

Trentemoller

After the profound effect that his previous single, ...Even Though You're With Another Girl, had on me, it's high time for the third official output off his sophomore album to see a proper release, and it's a doozy of a ditty. Whereas the last single had such deep emotional ties, Silver Surfer, Ghost Rider Go!!! is pure driving stealth tones that feel ripped from the pages of Miserlou and brought to life in a modern day musical moment.

The single will be out [soon], and will include remixes from Andrew Weatherall PrinzLulu Rouges featuring Abdullah S, and from Trentemøller himself. Each is unique but speaks volumes on top of the original arrangement and I've had nothing on but these four pieces of the rad all day long.

More info on this release when it becomes readily available. In the meantime...

The Good The Bad – 030

09 29 2010

I had a serious internal struggle in deciding whether or not to post the new video for The Good The Bad's single, 030. I had tweeted about it earlier in the week after it had first been revealed, and while I still can't, in good conscience, find the nerve to post the clip within these pages, you will find the link to watch it below. Call me cowardly, but maybe after you find yourself squirming in your chair whilst viewing, you'll understand my need to keep it kinda PG 'round these parts.

Backing up a bit... The Good The Bad are a trio of Danish rockers, bent on bringing a new breed of surf and flamenco rock to a fresh school of thought. Their all-instrumental tracks pair a lead and baritone guitar with a staunch drummer, and while they rely on the music rather than any vocals, it's definitely solid ground that TGTB are standing on. Think Dale & His Del-Tones' Miserlou, meets all of Link Wray's catalog, with a touch of The Kills' arrangements backing 'em up. In other words, oh hell yes!

Their long-awaited debut album, From 001 to 017, comes out on October 25, and features the bonus track, 030, which immediately turned my ear up and on to their intensely cinematic and characterizing tones. The video, directed by Jeppe Kolstrup, well that's also of the initiative of "turning one out"...

...and here's why. Reminder: this is extremely NSFW. You've been warned.
