Gotye – Someone I Used To Know (Taste Of Honey edit by Dcup)

01 26 2012

So Gotye (got-ya) scored the #1 spot on Triple J’s ‘Hottest 100′ with “Somebody I Used To Know” – plus some other dance acts actually (woo), so the timing of this was near perfect!

Although the song’s been rinsed so thoroughly that the fabric of its soul has almost been lost DCUP has funked this to the 10′s.

In a sorta well executed bootleg, Duncs has thrown in some groovy femme fatale vocals to balance out Wallys whirling voice and saxxed/guitaired it out to the max, a wonderful blend!

Yolanda Be Cool

01 23 2012

When fame hits you as suddenly as it did when Yolanda Be Cool and Dcup released ‘We No Speak Americano’, you can often wonder what was going through the artists mind at the time. To find this out and more, we caught up via email!

When you heard the mastered version of ‘we no speak americano’ for the first time with DCUP, did you feel like you had made something that would blow up as much as it did?

No not really. Actually not at all. We were actually even a little unsure if what we sampled could be considered sacrilege in Italy. So we emailed our Italian dj buddies, Mowgli, Solo & Riva to see what they thought. They all replied with the same answer which was basically. “haha this is funny” which we didn’t know whether was a good a thing or not.

Have you ever used your music to seduce someone?

Umm yep. It was my first and most consistently reliable trick for years:)

Who is your favourite dance music artist at this minute?

Morgan Geist aka Storm Queen – Everything this guy has done and is now doing is amazing.

Are there any other Aussie producers catching your attention at the moment?

Wax Motif & Parachute Youth are on fire at the moment.

What is the song you guys hold closest to your heart?

Juicy - The Notorious B.I.G.

90% of people reading this are probably bedroom producers – what’s your best pro-tip for kids starting out making beats?

Before writing a track make sure you have a strong idea and direction you want to take your track. Then go mad experimenting with all sorts of weird and crazy stuff in your pursuit of creating something unique.

Have you got any other talents?

We are pretty talented at staying out late:)

For those in Sydney, you can catch Yolanda Be Cool at Courtyard party on Thursday the 26th November!

NICK THAYER IN WINNIPEG

01 18 2012

Correct me if I’m wrong, but it seems like Winnipeg is a hotbed for ghetto funk. We’ve seen some incredible acts come through this city – NICK THAYER being the latest. We can thank our friends at MUSIC FIRST for this show.

I can’t imagine a producer as diverse as Thayer. Everything he does falls loosely into breaks, but the tempo ranges in his production makes him stand out. Yes, there’s breaks plain and simple, but also some of the best ghetto funk and dubstep I’ve heard Thayer has noodled.

The show is at The Zoo on Saturday, January 28. Tickets are $10 and are available at the usual sources. For more details check the facebook event page. Local support provided by some of Winnipeg’s finest, THE V@XXINE, and two of my personal favourite jocks ILL TYPE and  CODA with MC PUCONA.

Here’s a taste of what to expect, but I imagine it’ll be so much better, especially because Thayer plays sets almost consisting of edits he’s done himself.

URCHINS + AIRWOLF + TRUMPDISCO

Don’t let the long, wanky intro fool you. This new tune from AIRWOLF is not trance.

Grab it on beatport.

The tune is a bit of a departure from what Airwolf normally produces, and so is this collab with TRUMPDISCO.

AIRWOLF

11 21 2011

The bassline in this disco monster is so rich. Don’t even bother reading anymore just click here and get it.

For sure this is a disco tune, but it could work well anywhere, like say to lighten things up a bit in a bassline set, or anywhere in a midtempo breaks set, yadda yadda. I want to point out too, the bassline is pretty subtle, it’s soft low end hits you in the chode. Wiggle inducing, yep.
