EASY GIRL

05 27 2011

I’m really late on this post as this was meant to be a buildup post to the Easter themed party ‘Sound of Danger’ held at the Carlton (24/04/2011), with the primary focus of ‘resurrecting’ the italo. These Sunday night events, titled ‘Danger‘, are hosted by George Hysteric (of System fame) and Roman Wafers (Bamboo Musik). I was kindly given three edits from the duo to support/promo the night. Even though I have truly missed the boat, they are still, however, quite relevant and shouldn’t go unheard:

MP3: Atmosphera – Easy Girl (R.W. Edit)
MP3: Emmak – Black Jack (Hysteric Edit)
MP3: Steve Davil – Shake Me Up (Hysteric Edit)

The next Danger is in celebration of our humble Queen’s coming of age held of course at the Carlton, June 12th. With Hysteric + R.W., featuring special guest Michael Kucyk (the magnificent Noise in My Head)

It’s also nearly time for the next installment of the Bamboo Musik bi-monthly dance party held in the basement of the Mercat. This one will have the spotlight on the female species. Ladies, it is indeed your time to shine at your ‘Ladies Night‘ and by golly you should enjoy the privilege of having no cover charge – all night long. So special. Chaps, you will still have a good time, guaranteed. For more info: bamboomusik[at]gmail[dot]com

MP3: Mauro – Lady Africa + Bossanova Girl
MP3: Fancy – Lady of Ice
MP3: Klaus Weiss – Song for a Lady

BONUS: Just because I’m a huge Tull fan:
MP3: Jethro Tull – Ladies

And finally, the conclusion. Sydney will be hosting Vivid LIVE at the Sydney Opera House (May 27 – June 13). Here’s the blurb:

Vivid LIVE at Sydney Opera House is part of VIVID SYDNEY (May 27 – June 13), the city’s annual festival of light, music and ideas. Vivid Sydney celebrates the city as a leader in the field of the creative and cultural industries both nationally and throughout the region.

Each year, Vivid LIVE at Sydney Opera House asks a different artist or individual to curate a program of events in and around the world’s most iconic venue.

Following Brian Eno’s debut festival in 2009, Lou Reed and Laurie Anderson brought their unforgettable downtown New York vibe to Sydney in 2010. This year local music industry legend Stephen ‘Pav’ Pavlovic, founder of the hugely successful Sydney-based record label, touring company and international brand Modular, brings fresh Australian eyes to this growing international festival.

— taken from the official page.

So at this years Vivid there is a huge array of great artists and performers such as: The Cure, OFWGKTA, Azari & III, 2ManyDJs.. just to name a few. Full list right here.

One of the studio parties that deeply interests me is one involving Sydney’s Mad Racket crew, the Bamboo Musik team (R.W. + Dick Cheese [P.A.M.'s Misha]) and most importantly Gavin Russom. Gavin has been commissioned by Vivid LIVE to create something amazing with his The Crystal Ark project: 90 minutes worth of concert, involving a wide array of musicians, dancers, video + projection dudes and artists from NYC, DFA and LCD Soundsystem. Tickets and info here. Not to be missed!

With those who have a radio should tune into Triple J this Saturday (aka tonight) to catch the broadcast from midnight on the JJJ Mixup program.

The Dirt 22 Featuring Danger, Strip Steve, Jesse Voorn, Fazhands & Skream

01 22 2011

Big ups to our reader submitted GDD babe of the week!

After a short hiatus for the festive season, we’re back to bring you the first Dirt of 2011! Starting the year off strong, this week we’ve a fresh 14 in store, accumulating some of the hottest tracks in tropical tech, disco-house, electro and dubstep. Fear not Dirty Dancers, we will indeed be back with another helping next week. Whether it lands on a Wednesday or Saturday is up to the powers that be, but feel free to stick your oar in by voicing your thoughts on our facebook page and the comments section below.

Without further ado, it gives me great pleasure to dish The Dirt, number 22…

• .zip file (all 14 tracks)

Nero – Me & You (Danger Remix) ✓+
Kicking things off, Danger has unleashed a monster take on Nero‘s ‘Me & You’, a big dubstep track in it’s own right, I’m an even bigger fan of this remix than the original. It’s both heavy & laid back, so bump it and bliss out.

Eli Escobar – Love Thing Pt. 2 (DJ Mehdi Club Mix)
New Yorker Eli Escobar dropped his Love Thing Remixes EP on New Years Eve. A groovy five track with remixes from Runaway, Mike Simonetti, & a VIP from Escobar himself. Big fan of the Mehdi track on there, which features vocals from Amanda Blank.

Carte Blanche – Do! Do! Do! (Strip Steve Jacked Up Remix)
One DJ Mehdi track followed by another, this time via his sideproject with Riton. Boy Noize Recs‘ Strip Steve has a go at this catchy Carte Blanche original. If you’re a fan of Strip Steve’s sound, I recommend checking out ‘Calcium‘, you won’t regret it.

Jesse Voorn – Somewhere (Bass Kleph Remix) ✓+
Prog house vibes from the Stealth label’s Jesse Voorn. This has been a staple in my sets since October, and I absolutely love it. It gave me the same excitement that I got the first time I heard Mowgli‘s ‘London To Paris’, and it sounds alarmingly similar at points.

Amadou & Mariam – Sabali (Vitalic Remix) ✓+
Malian duo Amadou & Mariam have just put out a remix record that features tracks from Bob Sinclar, Miike Snow, DJ Aero, & Yuksek to name a few. Here’s Vitalic’s track on the record, remixing my favorite tune from their original Welcome To Mali album. ‘Sabali’ has been sampled a grip since they put it out two years ago and you’ll probably recognize it, having been used by Theophilus London, and Damian Marley & Nas.

Creep – Days (Azari & III Remix) ✓+
The very talented Azari & III have just remixed the latest single from Brooklyn duo CREEP. Featuring guest vocals from The XX‘s Romy Madley-Croft, it’s a mellow amalgam of Chicago house and indie-rock.

Christoph Andersson – Metropol (Original Mix) ✓+
A decent dose of disco-house with ambient vocals from New Orleans based Andersson, as covered by Jonah Berry earlier this week. Big tunes coming from him at the moment, definitely one to watch closely.

Layo & Bushwacka! – Love Story (Solo Bootyleg)
The original ‘Love Story’ by Layo & Bushwacka! was possibly my favorite techno tune when I was first getting into EDM. Solo‘s bootleg has been kicking around for some time, but I’ve been playing it a lot in my car recently. An early midget-house take on a classic.

Fazhands feat. Sam Wilkes – Press Play (Original Mix)
Melodic tech-house from a fellow Londoner, with vocals from NorCal’s Sam Wilkes. It’s the deepest groove on The Dirt, and reminds me a lot of KiNK‘s tracks.

John Roman – Sing! (Original Mix) ✓+
This week we received a promo from John Roman‘s forthcoming EP. It’s like dutch house with depth and it’s been getting mad support and play from the likes of Brodinski and LA Riots. Look forward to hearing the EP in full.

Momma’s Boy vs. MikiX The Cat – At Night (Star Eyes & Jubilee Papi Smurf Remix)
This frenetic collaboration from another couple of Brooklynites: Jubilee & Star Eyes, fuses a bit of everything: house, two-step, world samples, and undertones of UK Garage. High energy and not for the faint hearted, it gets better with every play.

Rusko – Feel So Real (Dubbel Dutch Remix)
Based out of Austin Texas, Palms Out‘s Dubbel Dutch reworks a dope Rusko track via 8-bit samples and garage basslines.

Magnetic Man feat. John Legend – Getting Nowhere (Skream Remix) ✓+
Skream’s darker remix of  sideproject Magnetic Man‘s new single with John Legend. This one’s faster and more percussive than the original, the single of which drops on February 21 via Columbia.

The Beatles – Eleanor Rigby (4Centers Remix)
At this point you’re probably thinking “yeah f***ing right”, and I don’t blame you. Together with the ‘Stones, The Beatles have probably attracted some of the worst remixes in the history of electronic music, and don’t even get me started about mash ups. However, this is legitimately the most impressive Beatles remix I’ve heard to date; catchy dubstep from Nevada based producer 4Centers.

So concludes the Dirt for this week.
Big love, and enjoy your weekend,

SweetFA

GDD™ + DANCEiSM present VS. Launch Party — Thursday 1/6

01 03 2011
The time has finally come. GDD™ and DANCEiSM have teamed up to bring a weekly electronic party to the West Side of Los Angeles in 2011. For those of you who missed it, we threw a VS. preview party back in November with Ooah (The Glitch Mob), Peacetreaty, Mr. White, ///BONES, and Kenya, and after hearing such supportive responses about the venue, music selection, and overall experience, we have decided to make The Central in Santa Monica our new home on Thursdays this year. This Thursday will be the launch of VS., and we have called upon friends to come out and DJ our first party with us. We'll have DJs from Shifty Rhythms, Uh Oh Disco, GDD™, and DANCEiSM on hand for some great tunage, so please come out to support the birth of a new, West Side party that will hopefully bring new life to the Los Angeles electronic scene. We are extremely excited about this new venture, and we hope that you all come out and show us the amazing, continued support + love you've had for GDD™ in the past years. Here's to 2011!

Year End Miracles

12 29 2010

Well, these weren’t hard to find and the whole year I didn’t post these guys once which they dominated the years before, strangely they got a remix in last minute this year. Just in time for those year end lists! First off is the Soulwax remix of Late of the Pier Best in the Class. Although I’m still biased towards their huge remix of The Chemical Brothers, similar sounds as their other remixes, but god damn it’s great to hear another remix coming from Soulwax. I thought they gave up one them. Unfortunately this was in a single, but 70 cents isn’t terrible for a track right?! Second is the Danger remix of Nero, sounding a bit different as in more rock heavy and clean, but I’m definitely digging the track. It’s downloadable through official.fm, the link provided. I’m used to a more sinister feel from their tracks, he’s got some awesome EPs if you haven’t gotten it already. And lastly, the Clockwork remix of Para One! I’m ashamed to say I didn’t even know Para One had an album, thought he mainly produced remixes. Great tracks, now to work on that Top list for the end of the year!

Late of the Pier – Best In The Class (Soulwax Remix)

Nero – Me and You (Danger Remix) (password: nero10)

Para One – Nervosis (Clockwork Remix)

ACID WASHED

09 24 2010

Since the release of their debut album in March, ACID WASHED’s luscious disco has steadily gained admirers and their reputation as DJs and live performers is growing with their expanding fanbase.

The monumental French label, RECORD MAKERS are proud to announce the release of their eponymous 12″ with remixes from The Hacker, Mickey Moonlight, Danger, Daniel Haaksman, Digikid84, Lazy Flow, Jungle Fiction and Stuff.

You can get the MICKEY MOONLIGHT remix with the low, low price of a simple tweet. You might as well take the time to click since Mickey took time out from finishing his debut album to contribute, with highs and lows of a swirling, summery mix.

The View from Britain:TGIF Edition

07 16 2010

Jees, this kids gonna make you as happy as a kid in a candyshop. I have got some insanely good new stuff for y’all. Take it away!

First up for you I’ve got an excellent remix of Annie‘s new track Song Reminds Me Of You, coming from The Swiss & Donnie Sloane. It’s six minutes of piano-laced electoesque madness. Whatever, it’s amazing.

Annie-Songs Remind Me of You (The Swiss & Donnie Sloan Remix)

La Zebra kindly sent over When In Rome, it’s a great house track, with a funky edge. It does actually remind me of Rome for some reason. As usual, my description fails to do justice, so check it out below.

la ZEBRA-When In Rome

Another song I got sent over comes from H.U.N.X. All about doing some dance, The Loco-Motion sounds like that 80′s number one your parents dance badly too at parties. You’ll either love it or hate it. I love it.

H.U.N.X.-The Loco-Motion

A little while back I posted a new track from Klaxons. It was alright but nothing special, but Echoes sees them back to their best, its the return of the Klaxons I know and love.

Klaxons-Echoes (Radio Edit)

I dunno where this came from, I gotta say, but I was doing a bit of MySpace-based procrastinating, and I came across an act called TrebleRebels, possibly the worst band name ever. Nonetheless, their track Sticky Song, featuring J-Neal is still pretty dope, I gotta hand it to them. Here it is.

J-Neal & Treble Rebels-Sticky Song

It’s now time for some electro, with Wolfgang Gartner‘s version of  Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony, recalling Justice. Check it out below, and read on for further electro madness.

Wolfgang Gartner-Wolfgang’s 5th Symphony (Radio Edit)

Now as a New Yorker I was unsure about posting this track I have to say. A song from a band called We Are Terrorists called Ground Zero does seem pretty distasteful, and I had serious reservations. But overall music has to come first, so here it is.

We Are Terrorists-Ground Zero

Like the last track, Danger‘s remix of Estelle‘s megahit American Boy is banging French Electro. It’s old but still worth a play (or three).

Estelle feat. Kanye West-American Boy (Danger Remix)

Also from Danger is this remix of Midnight Juggernauts. I think it needs to be blasted out to be really appreciated. The words, I have to say, are kinda lame but the track is still good, so here it is.

Midnight Juggernauts-Into the Galaxy (Danger Remix)

Now this isn’t really new, but it’s still sick, and in my head it goes with the last track (I have no idea why). Anyhow, it’s Baptism by Crystal Castles. I needn’t say anymore.

Crystal Castles-Baptism

Stereogum’s always a great place to find new music, and they just dropped a summer mixtape, which you can and should cop for free here. On it, was Dom‘s track Living In America, which I really like. I can’t believe I hadn’t come across this before.

Dom-Living In America

As regular readers will know, I always appreciate a good Ellie Goulding remix, and this effort from BeatsnPieces is my personal favorite version of Wish I Stayed. Props to him for sending an mp3 over.

Ellie Goulding-Wish I Stayed (BeatsnPieces Remix)

I hope that keeps you happy for the next week or so, I think there’s some nang new music there for you!

Incredible the visual concept of Danger, amazing work of Gian Franco Morini in the video and of course the perfect fitting in track at the visual context. Thanks Gian!
