G.O.O.D. Music signee and Clipse alum, Pusha T will drop his mixtape Fear of God on March 21, and “Cook It Down” our latest taste. Pusha isn’t talking about making tomato sauce—he drops the word “cocaine” enough to rival Charlie Sheen’s autobiography—and that contemplative, mourning church-organ backbeat borrowed from Drake and Bun B’s “Put It Down” presents a nice contrast (plus, you can just visualize those wheeling sky shots in the video, right?). In terms of melancholy rap songs, though, this guy knows what he’s doing – his flow is great, nostalgia palpable. Check out “Cook It Down” while you wait for the whole tape.
It’s been half a year since renown Clipse member Pusha T signed with Kanye West‘s G.O.O.D. Music imprint, since which contributing to major tunes like MBDTF‘s “Runaway,” “So Appalled” and also to a collection of Good Friday cuts. Now, FINALLY, the rapper’s dropped the first track from his debut for the label, Fear Of God.
The widespread critical fawning over Kanye West’s November release My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (this blog included) makes any future deflation of Mr. West’s universe-sized ego unlikely – but, with the great songs and hilarious tweets he keeps putting out, I have mixed feelings about his bubble’s inevitable burst. Because of course he did, Kanye dropped a seasonally appropriate jam today. He sexes up the season on “Christmas in Harlem,” which features a longer list of guests than your holiday party and the memorable lyric “put some more eggnog in your drink, mami.”
