Video: Cee Lo Green – “Anyway”

11 29 2011

The latest single from Cee-Lo’s The Lady Killer, the album that keeps on giving, is “Anyway,” that hyper-poppy, energetic ode to an understanding woman. We’ve already seen the official lyric video, but now the song has an actual music video, which, with its fast cuts and athletic dance interludes, is sort of like a 25th-century workout video inspired by Madonna’s “Vogue” with lots of fur coats and accessories, dramatic colorful lighting, and a stock market ticker that just says “love.” Check it out.

Next time you’re putting the moves on your lady, just remember, she don’t want no robot sex… Cee-Lo Green loves to stand out (if you saw him perform at the Grammys last week with Gwyneth Paltrow you’ll understand what I mean), and his latest, previously unreleased, tune is no exception. “Robot Sex” is as dedicated to disco revival as it comes; a funky, sultry dance gem that surprisingly did not make it onto Lady Killer.

ALL I NEEDED TO FEEL.

02 07 2011
We don't know too much about Essex's The Milk, just that they flawlessly combine the energy and kitsch of The Commitments, the swagger of Plan B and the infectious throwback soul of SugaRush Beat Company, and that we're very down with their new single "(All I Wanted Was) Danger". Vocalist Ricky Nunn comes off like a bizzaro world Tom Jones channeling Paloma Faith, and while they certainly have their influences down pat - paying homage to the greats from Stax and Trojan Records - they manage to find a way to make the sound their own. With the runaway success of Plan B and Cee Lo last year and Adele looking set to dominate the charts all year long in 2011, the UK looks to be on the cusp of a soulful pop renaissance (that said... it always kind of is, isn't it?), and it will be interesting to see whether or not The Milk spill over into the mainstream in the months to come.

MP3: "(All I Wanted Was) Danger" - The Milk

And yes, we regret that pun. We regret it a lot.
