MOULLINEX + PEACHES: CASABLANCA REWORKS

01 13 2012

Last year GOMMA was approached to rework some songs from the legendary Casablanca Records catalogue. MOULLINEX, Telonius, Munk and The Phenomenal Handclap Band did four new interpretations of classic tracks by Donna Summer & Giorgio Moroder, Skatt Brothers, Stephanie Mills and from the Flashdance soundtrack!

For the project they needed a very special vocalist, who they believed had the right understanding of history, the perfect dirty approach and enough soul. They found her in the former Canadian, PEACHES.

“Casablanca Reworks” was released today. Listen below and grab it on Juno or iTunes.

POOLSIDE + NEIL YOUNG

01 11 2012

This is a must hear tune. I’ve been playing practically non-stop. POOLSIDE‘s magic with their Neil Young cover is simply outstanding.

GOLDROOM + KELJET

01 11 2012

KELJET‘s latest is simultaneously uplifting and melancholic. The dichotomy make me want to snog and weep, hopefully not at the same time. If GOLDROOM gave it the thumbs up, maybe you should too.

Oh, here’s some Goldroom stuff we should have posted long ago too. I shouldn’t feel too bad about it, these tunes are everywhere.

CHRIS KOMUS

01 11 2012

As it turns out this we have a trilogy of Winnipeg-based posts.

CHRIS KOMUS hails from this prairie city. He’s a dj, producer, and promoter. His latest offering is his first stab at glitch hop and dare I say, it’s an immaculate introduction. It’s progressive and cinematic “with big drops and bigger bass” which will soon be released on ADAPTED RECORDS.

Chris Komus – Golden Promenade [Coming soon on Adapted Records] by Chris Komus

Here’s his latest mix too.

Chris Komus – [drumstep minimix] Don’t Put It Out With Your Boots by Chris Komus

Chris will also be contributing to Manalogue. Let’s give him a big hug, shall we?

JOHN NORMAN

01 10 2012

It’s quite unintentional that I don’t post much techno. It’s what I grew up on to be honest and hearing it 19 years after I was first introduced to the sounds is nostalgic to say the least. It brings back some memories – super secret hotlines and warehouses in Southern Alberta – raving ’til the sun came up. On that note, holy fuck! I started raving almost 20 years ago.

JOHN NORMAN (aka KHEMLAB) is originally from Winnipeg. He’s since transplanted to London and while I can’t say for sure, I think his latest release was influenced by the move. Here’s a sample of a playful, yet brooding tune out on 7Stars Music. Grab the tune from beatport.

Here’s John’s latest mix too.

John Norman – ‘Original Language’ Global Session – olgs026 – November 2011 by Khemlab_JohnNorman

Incidently, John has decided to join us here at Manalogue – and this here post is his official introduction. Let’s all say hello.

WOVEN RECORDS: BEAUCHAMP + TIM HOOVER + PHIL HOUSELEY

01 10 2012

You should pay attention to WOVEN RECORDS, a label based here in Winnipeg and Montreal. Over the past six months or so they’ve released a handful of releases that stare benality in the face and smack it about.

The first here is the standout – a totally unexpected pair of tunes from BEAUCHAMP. Having been to his events since 2005 I’d crown this Winnipeg native as the indie dance / nu disco king. He’s had his hands in nearly every event worth going to and dare I say, started a resurgence of indie-minded dance culture in this fare city. With his past in mind these atmospheric dubby tracks need to be heard.

01 – Please (Don’t) by Beauchamp

02 – Hylonome by Beauchamp

Up next are some selected remixes from TIM HOOVER‘s (aka DJ Co-op) latest.

Finally, here’s something from the mysterious PHIL HOUSELEY. Enjoy the George Michael sample in this free download.
