ALBUM REVIEW: Brandon Flowers – Flamingo
10 01 2010

STREET DATE: 09.14.10 | EMUSIC | AMAZON| INSOUND | ITUNES
Did anyone think this was a good idea? Well, for a minute I did. I thought that maybe Brandon Flowers would regain his mojo on a solo album, stripping down the instrumentation of The Killers to leave his impressive voice to do some heavy lifting. I liked the idea that Flowers was writing an album about Las Vegas, thinking that he might need a break from the rest of the band to tell his own story. I envisioned a more exposed Flowers, the vulnerable intensity of his vocals blossoming in a sparse environment. If that type of album – an honest, soulful, personal record from a great singer with an ear for catchy melodies – were the outcome, then yeah, a Brandon Flowers solo album would be a great idea.

Now this is what I’m talking about BFlo. After listening to the few tracks from Brandon Flowers‘ solo debut album, made available to us by these great internets, it was too easy to just file Flamingo (that’s the name of said album) under The Killers umbrella. But it’s campy MGMT-esque pop tunes like “Only The Young” that offer some kind of differentiation between Flowers’ world-famous band and, well, Flowers. Hear the track below:

LISTEN: Kanye West – “Runaway” f/ Pusha T
On Sunday night, Kanye West performed “Runaway” — a possible new single from his upcoming album — at MTV’s Video Music Awards with Pusha T. We put up a video of the performance on Sunday night, but it has since been taken down. As if waiting for the cue, the internet has brought us the CD quality version of “Runaway”, and it sounds even better than before. Listen to the track below: (Continue Reading)
WATCH: Of Montreal – “Sex Karma” f/ Solange Knowles (Live at Cemetery Gates)
Earlier today we put up our review of False Priest, of Montreal’s latest album. We weren’t exactly loving it, to be honest, but I can’t deny this performance of the Solange Knowles-featuring “Sex Karma” on Pitchfork.tv’s Cemetery Gates. (Continue Reading)

**EXCLUSIVE**
Working on another hot tip this morning, my buddy Dominik Von Werdt, or as he likes to shorten that ish down to DVW (yes, we approve of lessened keystrokes), bursts back in to Beastonia with an edit of The Killers' frontman, Brandon Flowers' single, Crossfire. Now, if you know me, then you're well aware of my initial misgivings and meh-ttitude when it comes to the bloke's body of new work. Thankfully, we got our pal D to the V-Dubs working his magic and making us smile.
Let's erase all memories of the original tune from Senor Flowers...
...and simply soak up the awesomesauce that DVW has provided with us this morning.
Full of win.
