Watch This Now: Rihanna Performs Medley at the American Music Awards

11 21 2010

That is a misleading post title, because while I'm demanding you watch this clip of Rihanna performing live to open the AMA's earlier this evening, I'd also suggest that you do not view the video if you are a fan of excessive hip thrusts and crotch twirls. Simply, it may lead to spontaneous combustions if that's yer sort of "thing". Oh also, her voice sounds great during this medley of Love the Way You Lie, What's My Name and Only Girl (in the World), which can all be found on her current album, Loud. Katy, Christina, Miley who? Ri Ri is reppin' for us tan grrrrlls and she's killing everyone else in her path.

Lady Gaga’s The Remix Out in the US Today

08 03 2010

It's not as if Lady Gaga needs any more promotional pushes, or gosh, more words writ and wrought by this solo blogger, but it's been quite a while since I've actually taken the time to write something relevant about what's going on in her Haus lately. So here we go: she's got a remix album out in the US today, that has already sold over 500k units internationally. Power.

First, for posterity's sake, let's look back at when I first fell in love with Gaga the pop star, not the St. Jerome's stage-strutting burlesque performer we knew way back whence. April 2008, and yes, you are all free to belly-laugh at the nonsense that is/was my site layout at the time. And now, here we are today, with the world's biggest pop-star poised to become even more celebrated, now with 13 MTV VMA Nominations, if in fact, we count popularity and world domination by the number of cable statues one receives from said show.

Below, the list of awards she's going to win. I know, I know....

Karen O Swipes the Grammy Out of Miley’s Hands

12 10 2009

Sort of. Here’s the deal. There’s a category in The Grammy’s for Best Song Written For Motion Picture, Television Or Other Visual Media Field. Be that as it may, Miley Cyrus‘ tween-adored track, The Climb, was a contender for the award, until this morning.

It was initially reporthted that a previously nominated track was “disqualified.” That track [The Climb] which appears on the soundtrack to Hannah Montana: The Movie, was removed from consideration, leaving the nom open for the song with the next-highest vote count: Karen O‘s All is Love, from Where the Wild Things Are.

According to Cyrus’ camp, they had previously remnoived it from contention, yet an error still had the song available for ballot votes. The nomination gives Karen two nods, the other being received for Best Alternative Album and It’s Blitz!

The category nominees now look as such.

All Is Love (From Where The Wild Things Are)
Karen O. & Nick Zinner, songwriters (Karen O. & The Kids)

Decode (From Twilight)
Josh Farro, Hayley Williams & Taylor York, songwriters (Paramore)

Jai Ho (From Slumdog Millionaire)
Gulzar, A.R. Rahman & Tanvi Shah, songwriters (A.R. Rahman, Sukhvinder Singh, Tanvi Shah, Mahalaxmi Iyer & Vijay Prakash)

Once In A Lifetime (From Cadillac Records)
Ian Dench, James Dring, Amanda Ghost, Beyoncé Knowles, Scott McFarnon & Jody Street, songwriters (Beyoncé)

The Wrestler (From The Wrestler)
Bruce Springsteen, songwriter (Bruce Springsteen)

Ellie Goulding Wins Brit’s 2010 Critics Choice Award

12 09 2009

Ellie Goulding, the 22-year old singer/songwriter, who has been quick to steal the hearts of boys and girls blogwide, was named as the Brit 2010 Critics’ Choice Award Winner last night. The prize goes to the act most likely to break through in the coming year.

Previous winners of the award include Adele and Florence + The Machine, and while Goulding has yet to crack a top 40 hit, her first single, Under The Sheets, has quickly become a mainstay and favorite across indepndent and worldwide media sources. We’ve touted her as “the one to watch in 2010″, and the award is further confirmation that we’re in for a massive takeover by the winsome gal.

Runners-up shortlisted for this year’s award were Delphic and Marina and The Diamonds.

The Critics’ Choice award for emerging acts is announced two months before the main Brit Award nominations are revealed on January 18. Goulding will perform at the event and pick up her award at the main ceremony, honoring all winners, on February 16.

11 16 2009

Our favorite rockin’ chick, Juliette Lewis, was recently in Berlin, both to hit up Europe with her Terra Incognita tour, as well as to attend and present a statue at the MTV EMA Awards earlier this month.

As a special supplement to the awards, Lewis did a brief interview with the German constituents pre-show host, complete with an acoustic performance of Fantasy Bar, from her latest album.

Oh, did we mention that this rendition takes place in the back of a car? Check it out!

Reminder for all you European friends and readers: Juliette Lewis powers on through your towns, continuing on tour for the next month. All remaining dates can be found here.

And for even more goodness, check our interview with Ms. Lewis here, in case you missed our incessant swoonings.
