Details about the UK's most enchanting new chanteuse Bluebell are few and far between, and aside from her friendship with fellow Neon Gold favorite FOE and former involvement in Hampshire four piece Lady & The Lost Boys, there's not much known about Miss Annabel Jones. This much we do know though: her debut single "Normal Heights" is anything but, so extraordinary is the orchestral pop instrumentation that strings you along throughout, leaving you breathless with dramatic looping vocals and its delightfully circuitous structure. Combining Au Revoir Simone grace with raw Imogen Heap emotion, its a special track and the perfect intro song to your new band crush. Plus, we can personally attest to the consistent brilliance of the releases to come, filled to the brim with the kind of massive pop hooks we want to get real friendly with. For now though, “Normal Heights” will keep you grounded, in the best way imaginable. Consider this the post-“Such Great Heights” during the comedown, right before you decide to dive back in.

Max Cooper's carved out somewhat of an esteemed reputation for himself. And his production output is nothing short of prolific.

Earlier this month Au Revoir Simone came out with an album called Night Light, a compilation of remixes from the likes of Neon Indian, Jensen Sportag, Silver Columns, Aeroplane and a handful of others. I did some preview action in iTunes and this thing is pretty solid, my favorites being the Clock Opera remix of “Tell Me” and Jensen Sportag‘s version of “All or Nothing.” There’s really something for everyone on this realese, so don’t be dumb, give it a listen.

We've shown no shortage of love to Clock Opera as of late, but how could we not when dude is just deserving it so hard with every move he makes. First he dropped jaws with his immaculate remix of Marina & The Diamonds, then last week he unveiled his brilliant new single "A Piece of String", and now he's back with yet another beautiful rework, this time for Brooklyn dreamweavers Au Revoir Simone. Employing similar techniques to those in play on his Marina remix, Clock keeps the verses largely intact and splices together words and sounds to reinvent the chorus entirely, as pulsating synths churn ominously beneath pristine piano notes and icy Sigur Ros-esque atmospherics.

Is there anyone making prettier fix-ups than Clock Opera right now? Let me answer that for you. No. They’re kind of killing it on all accounts, whether it be their original material, or the remixes they’ve churned out for Marina and the Diamonds, The Golden Filter and The Phenomenal Handclap Band. Thanks to an upcoming album, comprised entirely of Au Revoir Simone reworks, we get treated to more nice nice from the London quartet.

 

 

Au Revoir Simone, the Brooklyn-based synth trio, released their third studio album, Still Night, Still Light, just over a year ago. Earlier this year, they let loose information that they’d be releasing a remix album of their current offering. The new remix album, titled Night Light, will be released via Moshi Moshi on July 5.

 

The mixed package contains reworks by Neon Indian, Jens Lekman, Aeroplane, and the prior mentioned, Clock Opera. The latter’s take on the originally song, which vegins quite haunting before working itself into a faster paced frolic, falls perfectly in line with everything they’ve trained our ears to expect…piano-driven arrangements with drum thrusts that complement the integrity of the song. (I’d be remiss to not give a nifty nod to NME. They had the exclusive on this; we’re merely big beastly fans who’ve been serviced it after.)
