Mickey Moonlight – Come On Humans (Sam Tiba Remix)

05 07 2012

Mickey Moonlight Sam Tiba

Sam Tiba is never one to shy away from an alterative remix, especially one of Ed Bangers avant garde artist Micky Moonlight.

“Come On Humans” is strange enough in it’s original form on the ‘Mickey Moonlight And the Time Axis Manipulation Corporation’ LP without the 1/3 Club Cheval-er re-working it!

What he has done is open up a yokey and spluttery bassline with a stabby two-tab synth to create one hell of a jam.

SCNTS, Daniel Avery (stopmakingme) and Das Glow fill out the EP – buy on iTunes now.

The Prodigy Name Next Album

05 06 2012

The Prodigy

UK 90′s electronic pioneers The Prodigy have named their forthcoming 6th studio album (we’re not counting that live thing)!

When speaking with NME it was the bands frontman, Liam Howlett that spilled the details on the current working title ”How To Steal A Jet Fighter” and also promised a ‘heavier and darker’ sound.

Howlett said; “We’re really excited about it. The last record was kind of a party album, I guess. We were all happy to be back together again. But the best tunes of that album are the ones that have less of that. It’s definitely going to be heavier, darker.”

A release date has not been formalised yet but expect new material to be played at their tour dates locked in for the next few months.

Stream Simian Mobile Discos new album ‘Unpatterns’

05 06 2012

Simian Mobile Disco

Simian Mobile Disco have been clever in the roll-out to their third album ‘Unpatterns’ with a smudge of video teasers, single streams and artwork reveals.

Core fans and casual listeners can now stream the entire record below including break-out tracks “Put Your Hands Together” and “Cerulean”.

The most refreshing things is the fullness to the album – it’s not a few singles packaged together with filler but a distinctive and progressive release with a throw-back to hey days of good electronic music!

DMX Krew – Wavey Tones EP

05 06 2012

Wavey Tones

Wavey Tones the label has a strong musical past with one of the founders Unlikely having been a DJ on Rinse FM and effectively taking the Brighton UK bass scene (along with Kion) by storm in the latter part of the last decade.

They have had a recent guest mix from TOYC, an exciting up and coming producer for their warehouse rave back in october last year. And now they have their second release from DMX Krew, I won’t patronise you with what era this EP has taken its influences from. That 80′s sound, the use of vocoders and at times acid house synths, bring that nostalgic vibe Wavey Tones have been associating themselves with recently.

Their last event was headlined by none other than ‘Egyptian Lover’ (Youtube him) and he has evidently rubbed off onto their taste in production. Track A has a light hearted acid house feel to it with a smooth bassline, and yet maintains an almost future funk/disco feel. Track C is my personal favourite, its up-beat funky bassline and equally funky synths draw you into this forward thinking throwback.

Look out for this in June on 12′ and digital release.

Skrillex named one of the greatest guitarist of all time

05 03 2012

Skrillex Grammys

SPIN mag must be pulling a late April fools or smoking some serious A-grade as they have just named dubstep producer Skrillex as one of the best guitarists of all time – although having never actually played guitar under the moniker.

Even though he came in at #100 the chart doesn’t use his real name Sonny John Moore – and actually points to the bass drop in ”Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites”?

Still not convinced? Take a read of the full spiel;

Look, as far as we know, our asymmetrically coiffed party pal has never held a guitar in his life. But no contemporary musician has a more primal understanding of adrenaline-pumping, pulse-raising, chest-caving bulldozer riffs than dubstep mosh ambassador Skrillex. Somewhere between the unfiltered piston-pumps of nü-metal and the twinkling emocore melodies that weaned him is a gaping sarlacc of yawping melodies and buzzsaw edges. The bass drop to “Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites” might just be this generation’s “Smoke on the Water” — look no further than the obscene number of “Skrillex guitar cover” videos on YouTube!
Most Heroic Moment: Korn’s “Get Up,” even if Munky technically plucked the strings.

Nope… we’re not convinced.

Shame on you SPIN.

Kimbra – Build Up (George FitzGerald remix)

Kimbra

UK Bass kingpin, George FitzGerald remixing Kimbra? We’re as surprised as you.

This one starts off rather melodically, with just vocals and synths, before the percussion kicks in and things get serious. DJ’s take note – this has some serious dance-floor filling potential.

The remix comes as part of a free EP from Kimbra that includes Brenmar and Benjamin Damage, get it here.

Watch: Crookers ft Style of Eye & Carli – “That Laughing Track”

05 02 2012

Crookers Laughing Track

Italian bro-sters Crookers were once the top tier of electro stormers and have since risen from the ashes post the apocalyptic fall of the genre with the release of the banging EP “That Laughing Track” featuring Style of Eye & Carli out on Mad Decent/Southern Fried.

The music video that follows a total 90′s rave spazz out filled with masked hooligans, out of control waveforms and a non-stop evil laughter!

For how predictably annoying this clip could be, it’s just the opposite and gets you watching/listening again and again.

Listen to the whole EP here w/ remixes from Milano, Sona Vabos, Sound Of Stereo and TWR72.

A-Trak, Skrillex and Diplo to take on Michael Jackson

05 02 2012

Michael Jackson Skrillex A-Trak Diplo

With the surging popularity behind dance and electronic music… or EDM as your naf friends would call it, droves of global brands are getting behind international producers with more money then ever!

The most recent gamble is PepsiCo’s efforts to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Michael Jacksons album, ‘Bad’ by enlisting Billboards hottest producers, Diplo, A-Trak and Skrillex to remix tracks taken from the record.

Now i’m sure the results might actually be fathomable considering each have a fairly studious amount of skill and talent but how someone thought to take the now passed king of pop’s work and give it a modern spin is beyond me.

Things are special for a reason and just because a trend is all consuming and you so dearly want your brand to connect doesn’t mean you should touch things that have a place in time… especially not to be regurgitated into a warbling, chopped mess.

It seems like the deed has already been done though with the promotion set to run and allow purchasers the ability unlock tracks by scanning barcodes on the specially embossed cans via mobile phones (just how MJ would have liked it huh).

I wonder when the bubble will pop?

Anyone remember this?

Hot Chip on The Simpsons

05 02 2012

The Simpsons Hot Chip

How do The Simpsons do it? Year after year they stay relevant with ease as celebrity cameos and music selection always keep things pretty hip…

The most recent dejour to get your chuckles or head bobs to is the inclusion of Hot Chips bumper track “Boy From School” and although from an album that is 6 years old (The Warning), you can’t help but think it sounds fresher then ever.

“The Totally Fun Thing Bart Will Never Do Again” – the episode featuring Hot Chip also features an older track “Winters Love” taken from Animal Collectives 2004 debut ‘Sung Tongs.

Can we all just agree that The Simpsons and Hot Chip rule?

German DJ held as sex slave

04 30 2012

DJ Sex Slave

A Berlin DJ has had to place an emergency call to police to be rescued from a ‘sex crazed’ 47 year old female after meeting her earlier in a pub.

The 43-year-old DJ named Dieter S. told local T.Z. newspaper that he had to call police to rescue him from the woman’s flat in Munich after she locked him inside, hid the key and forced him to have repeated sex with her.

“She was sex mad and there was no way out of the flat,” Dieter said.

In a strange twist the DJ had actually had consensual sex with the woman earlier that day – “I was having a beer at the pub after work and met this woman — and we hit it off right away,” adding “She was quite attractive,” but after procreating three time changed his mind and noticed all the doors were locked and the balcony too high when trying to leave.

“I realized I was trapped and had to keep going until she fell asleep,” Dieter said. “So we had sex five more times.”

After the women tired and fell asleep Dieter crept to the balcony and placed an emergency call to police who arrived within 10 minutes.

When authorities arrived the female unlocked the door and promptly propositioned the officers to join her in ‘related activities’ although unsuccessfully.

The woman was taken into custody and later released. She now faces charges of sexual coercion and deprivation of freedom.

Kraak & Smaak – Built For Love (feat. Romanthony)

04 30 2012

Kraak and Smaak

Our love affair with Kraak & Smaak continues as Jalapeno Records give away a free download of their fluid single “Built For Love” feat Romanthony (vocals behind Daft Punks “One More Time” and “Too Long”).

From the get go it’s all business with drums, handclaps and a dubious and slippery bass line making “Built For Love” a real dancefloor romper!

Flight Facilities to release new single w/ remixes!

04 30 2012

Flight Facilities

The ever popular disco duo Flight Facilities have teased us with a short video of their next single “With You” featuring Hot Chip drummer Grovesnor.

Stepping away from the lushness of “Crave You” and “Foreign Language” the new single is a lean towards a slightly more brisk dance tune then.

With the ever-growing celebrity status of the two come some equally interesting names on the remixes with Danny Daze, MAM and David August all putting in their 2c with the boys themselves  adding in an extended mix.

Expect the single May 14th and a possible album later this year.

UK dubstepper producing for Kelis

04 29 2012

Kelis

UK producer Skream has revealed in an interview with The Tuesday Club that he has been producing for female R&B singer Kelis ahead of her expected 6th album release.

Amidst a lot of the terrible crossovers in recent times (ahem.. Calvin Harris/Rihanna, Skrillex/The Doors) we’re a little more excited to hear this one!

In another interview with the 25 year old (and co-conspirator Benga) one of the two tracks he’s produced has been titled as “Distance” and described as a ‘UK Garage record’.

Who else remembers this gem? We want a Skream remix of “Milkshake’ haha

Pop Royalty to DJ in Ibiza with PNAU

04 26 2012

PNAU

Looks like ole sir Elton John will be gracing the decks for Ibiza’s first ever three day music festival, 123 Ibiza Rocktronic.

Although we aren’t sure as to the “Candle In The Winds” skills when spinning the 1′s and 2′s he will be joined by Australian indie-poppers PNAU - who have a degree of dance in them as brothern of Nick Littlemore shares the same bloodline as Sam La Moore.

The most exciting bit will hopefully be a proper unveiling of tracks taken from the remix album commissioned by Elton for the PNAU lads (first snippet back in March).

Other international heavyweights on the lineup include Sting, Lenny Kravitz and a swathe of electronic acts Fatboy Slim, David Guetta, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs and Azari & III.

Dance music makes you harder, stronger, faster

04 26 2012

Starsky and Hutch

The boffins behind the book ‘Inside Sport Psychology’ have figured out that listening to music can give you sporting performance gains of up to 15%.

Turns out the pro’s are known as ‘associators’ and find motivation internally while average joe’s like you and me (dissociators) turn to external influences to perform to a higher standard.

What does this all mean?

Well it explains how the kids can dance in the club until the early hours (without ah… stimulants) but might now give you scientific proof that blasting Justice/Mr Oizo/Breakbot on your daily job or at the gym is a-ok!

Has dance music helped you perform at a higher standard?

Foster The People – Don’t Stop (Oliver Remix)

04 26 2012

Well this one has been a long time coming – the Oliver remix of Foster The Peoples “Don’t Stop” is finally here!

It’s not often that you want to step through a full 6 minute-r but things can change, trust me.

Big wiping syths and cleverly echo’d vocals take the original overdone indie and turn it into a feel good, head bobbingly lush mix.

Huzzah!

Kris Menace, KoweSix Vs. Empire Of The Sun – Walking On eFeel (Leksy Mashup)

04 25 2012

Empire Kris

There’s a reason we don’t post mashups too often, usually it’s their bloated names and well… they just suck. Although still awfully long we can dig this Kris Menace/KoweSix vs Empire of the Sun mashup up by Lesky.

So what’s so good about it? Well the fact its pretty seamless says a lot, it doesn’t feel built in a way most mashups go with one song trouncing the other – half-way through and it’s easy to forget this isn’t a proper remix or original haha

It’s so good in fact Kris actually uploaded this to his own damn Soundcloud!

“eFeel” is actually taken from Kris’ new album ‘Electric Horizon’ and they have a remix comp going with a proper swag of prizes, all the detail here.

Germany beats Youtube

04 25 2012

Youtube

The all powerful video site Youtube has had some wind pulled from its sails after the German performance rights organisation GEMA successfully argued that they had not done enough to stop infringing content from being uploaded.

A German court made the ruling based on seven of 12 GEMA owned videos saying Youtube had not done enough to ensure accountability of the users that had uploaded the content.

Depending on the final outcome Youtube may have to pay out lump sums of royalties for these particular examples and open the door for many more!

A spokesperson for Youtube who stated that they took no responsibility for what their users uploaded said ”Today’s ruling confirms that YouTube as a hosting platform cannot be obliged to control the content of all videos uploaded to the site. We remain committed to finding a solution to the music licensing issue in Germany that will benefit artists, composers, authors, publishers and record labels, as well as the wider YouTube community.”

Back in 2009 GEMA again successfully argued that Rapidshare had not done enough with a court ruling that the organisation install filters to protect their copyrighted content (who now looking to have to filter ALL content).

Sam Sparro – I Wish I Never Met You (Azari & III Remix)

04 24 2012

Indie-electro star Sam Sparro has a new single “I Wish I Never Met You” and although it has a less then welcoming name  it’s actually a pretty catchy number.

So how do you go about turning the fairly superb original into the crushingly cool? Just get Toronto’s answer to Elton John, Azari & III to remix that bitch!

Slowing things down a notch AZIII tone it down into a throbbing, sloppy remix fit for a damp dancefloor or k-hole… yeah we went there.

04 23 2012

It was only last week or so that we premiered the Mickey Remix of “Mr Overtime”, a collab between London-ers Punks Jump Up and Chromeo’s Dave1 and now we have the equally glowing music video.

If driving music came to mind when listening to the original or remixes you’d be pretty spot on the at the visual interp as the bro’s find themselves roaring along a futuristico highway, quiffs blowing in the wind and wayfs ready to block the lazer rays!

Still don’t get it? Just watch.

Kris Menace Remix Competition + Album Stream

04 23 2012

Electric Horizon Kris Menace

Having produced music for over 10 years it’s strange to figure that Christophe Hoeffel only coined the name Kris Menace in 2005 with his muchly anticipated debut release of “Discopolis (collaborated on with Lifelike) on Alan Braxe’s Vulture Music Label.

Skip forward to 2012 and Kris Menace is set to release ‘Electric Horizon’, a blistering 10 track album along with a remix comp for one of the lead singles “We Are”.

Enter: Kris Menace “We Are” remix competition now.

It’s not your typical listen-to-this-and-remix-it sort of business either – for starters Kris recorded a video taking you through the parts of the track and explains the in’s and out’s to it all (who else has done that huh!)

Secondly the prizes… we’re not talking some dinky Soundcloud Pro accounts here, we’re talking about real deal top shelf software AND hardware including a mix of Spark Drum Machines, Tony Maserati Audio Plug-ins, Oberheim Synth Modules, a Oneknob Bundle and much more (full prize details here)!

The winning remix will also feature as a release on Kris’ own Compuphonic label.

While you muse over just how you’re going to attack this one, have a stream of the new album ‘Electric Horizon’ here.
