New Charli XCX: “You’re The One” (Invisible Children Session)

05 12 2012

Rising London pop singer premiered the title track from her upcoming debut EP You’re The One in a session with Invisible Children in Austin during SXSW. This is the first time we’re hearing the song and in its stripped down acoustic form, it’s beautiful. That undeniably smart pop songwriting is on full display here and we can only imagine how great it must sound when it’s coupled with Charli’s signature goth pop production.

New Drake & Future: “We In This Bitch 1.5″ p/ DJ Drama

05 11 2012

DJ Drama, enlists hip hop all-star and rising ATL auto-tune aficionado for new track “We In This Bitch 1.5.” You might have heard, but Drake and Future have worked together before, and we can’t say that it’s terrible to have them on the same track again. They both bring it; Future a bit more aggressively than Drake, as it turns out –– and Drama proves to be as reliable as ever. Listen below:

New Charli XCX: You’re The One EP Announced

05 11 2012

We’re a bit disappointed that exciting debut EP we’ve been hearing about is merely a glorified single featuring only one new song (the title cut) and the familiar “Nuclear Seasons.” Of course, they also top us off with remixes from and . The EP is set to arrive June 12 via . Around this time, Charli will be on tour with Coldplay, having wrapped up her tour with Santigold the week before. Check out the tracklist and tour dates below:

Lil B Raps Over The Titanic Song

05 11 2012

raps over what he calls “one of the realest songs ever made,” the cheese-jam to end cheese-jams, ’s “My Heart Will Go On” (or, possibly even cheesier, a saxophone rendition of the Oscar-winning, Grammy-winning chorale). Lil B’s words would be inspiring if we weren’t overcome by goofy smiles and snickers as the saxophone refrain kicks into full gear. We kind of lost it when Based God started singing the chorus.

Check Out: MS MR – “Hurricane”

05 10 2012

While fellow New York indie pop duo Cults looks to the 60s for inspiration, upstarts have firmly planted themselves in the heart of 90s chick pop. Their debut single “Hurricane” sounds familiar, as if we’ve known it for years. Personally, it’s driving me crazy trying to figure out what exactly it’s reminding me of; I’ve had it on loop for about twenty minutes now and all I’ve managed to do is get this beautiful track stuck in my head.

05 10 2012

Nigel Godrich is best known for his production work with (he’s had a major role in the making of every album since Kid A), and most recently, working with ’s Atoms For Peace. Now Godrich has formed a band with Los Angeles drummer Joey Waronker and London singer Laura Bettinson. Under the moniker Ultraísta, Godrich and co are making cold synth pop along the lines of Radiohead’s excellent “Lotus Flower.” In fact, that’s exactly what debut single “Smalltalk” sounds like, a Radiohead song without Thom Yorke.

Video: Grimes – “Nightmusic”

05 10 2012

has released a second video from her album Visions. After the one for “Oblivion”, we’ve now got a clip for the impossibly catchy “Nightvisions,” one of our favorite cuts from the album. Claire Boucher is more than a little bit unnerving in this woodland scene, and there’s also some brief nudity (read: don’t watch if you’re offended by some dude’s butt).

MP3: Oberhofer – “Runaway” (Kanye West cover)

has covered Kanye’s “Runaway” before, but they’ve finally released an official recording for their sprawling rendition. Oberhofer doesn’t quite convey the stark honesty and feeling Kanye does, but the song’s solemn piano ballad chords reimagined as muggy shoegaze is a nice touch. New Teen Daze: “What You Feel”

05 08 2012

On June 5th will release his first ever long player All Of Us, Together. New cut “What You Feel” is not a track from that album. In fact, Jamison didn’t think the song was good enough to be on the album, which is funny because we’re vibing to this pretty hard right now. It’s got the familiar airy shoegaze meets electro feel of a Teen Daze song, but Jamison is mixing something up. It’s brighter, more tropical and carefree than we’ve ever heard him be. We’re hoping this song was left off the album because he has even better tunes in store and not because he wants to shy away from this sort of summer-perfect jam.

New Four Tet: Jupiters b/w Ocoras

05 08 2012

Londoner Kieran Hebden, who records as is responsible for some of my favorite sounds recorded in the last ten years, and after seven studio releases, three mix albums and four albums released under his birth name, he is still releasing music at consistent levels (lately he’s been into collaborating with the likes of Burial and Thom Yorke). His latest single, the fifteenth from his Text Records imprint, is an expansive, smooth jammer called “Jupiters” and it comes with a stuttering b-side “Ocoras.”
